Stop Making Excuses

Scripture: Luke 5:5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

Observation: Simon did what Jesus asked him to, but without first making an excuse. That’s me. God will put on my heart what He wants me to do and instead of doing it right away I make excuses first, I’m too tired, I can do it another time, I can’t do it and the list goes on. I should just do it with pleasure knowing that I’m obeying my Lord.

Application: I need to listen to my master and as soon as it is on my heart to do something I should do it with pleasure. I need to stop making excuses when opportunities avail themselves. Last week Pastor Matt asked me to speak to the Junior High Ministry and the first words out of my mouth was why I couldn’t. However I went and God blessed my obedience, but I should have jumped at the chance to do God’s will.

Prayer: My Lord May I never hesitate doing you will. Help give me focus and strength to obey your every command. May I do everything out of my love for you.

The Devil Owns This Place

Scripture: Luke 4: [6] And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.

Observation: I look around at this world and it sure appears that Satan owns this place. All the corruption, murder and sin that fills this world and it seems to keep growing. It is interesting that Satan didn’t take the world, God gave it to him. If you belong to the world then that means you belong to the devil, but my life belongs to God. I can’t wait until God takes this place back.

Application: My job is to tell everyone about God and the devil. People have gotten so comfortable with Satan around them they have become desensitized of the evil. I need to be telling others about God’s place and the special place He built for them. I need to help open the eyes of people so they can see the evil the devil has done and point them to the God that has treasures waiting for them.

Prayer: Dear Lord I don’t belong here, I hate it here, but you have me here for a reason and I ask you for strength so I will tell others of the plan you have for their life and show them what the devil has done to this place.

I Need to Produce

Scripture: Luke 3: [9] The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

Observation: At times I produce good fruit, but not often enough. The opportunities are out there to produce a harvest of fruit and not just a piece here and there. God saved me for a reason and it wasn’t to look after myself, but to bear good fruit in His name. If I don’t, what good am I?

Application: I need to search out opportunities to bear fruit. Make it my priority and not a hobby. God has blessed me with so much and has given me the talents and gifts I need to be fruitful.

Prayer: Dear Lord show me how to bring a harvest to You. Give me wisdom and strength to bear good fruit that will be pleasing and appetizing to you. Show me how to glorify you while I’m here.

Pondering His Blessings

Scripture: Luke 2: [19] But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Observation: Why don’t I treasure the things that the Lord has done for me? Jesus keeps blessing me and gets me through difficult times in my life and it seems as soon as it is over I forget them. Mary pondered her blessings then treasured them and I believe that gave her strength and increased her faith.

Application: I need, each day, to ponder the things the my Lord has done in my life, then treasure them by putting them in a safe place in my heart and mind. This way instead of worrying about a situation I can make a withdrawal out of my treasures and trust in my God that He is in control no matter what the situation.

Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you for all that you have done for me and since I didn’t treasure your blessings I’ve lost so many. Help me now treasure the gifts and love you bestow on me and keep them safe in my spirit.

I Want to Be Blessed

Scripture: Luke 1: [45] Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!”

Observation: Why is it so hard for me to believe that God will do what He said He would do. God’s word is full of His promises along with the conditions that we must do first. I stand on His promise on Proverbs 3:5,6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.

Application: I need to acknowledge my Lord as supreme in my life and trust Him totally that no matter what happens in needs to glorify Him. I need to stand firm in my believe and get busy following His directions for my life and then wait on Him for any blessings He desires to give me.

Prayer: Dear Lord I believe, help me with my unbelief. Turn my heart to you that I will trust you in every situation in my life. The only blessing I desire is to grow closer to you and to please you.

My Main Job

Scripture: Mark 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

Observation: There is only one thing I’m to accomplish along with every other Christian and that is to spread the gospel and help bring God’s children home. Each one of us will do it differently as there are parts to the body we also have our own special role to play, but the end result is still get the gospel out and help open the eyes of others to God’s love.

Application: It’s hard to get my work done if I’m not doing anything. God can’t direct my path until I move my feet. I need to step out and get involved. Whether it’s a church function, ministry, depression ministry counseling our simply praying with others I need to be busy each day. God has given me my job description and work goal and I have the best employer ever and I need to honor Him with a job well done.

Prayer: Dear Lord guide me each day and take this laziness from me. You deserve the best I have and I need to get my work done. I need your strength and courage to get this job done, please Lord fill me with the Holy Spirit and direct my path.

May I Proclaim the Son of God

Scripture: Mark 15:[39] And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”

Observation: I wonder how much Jesus has to do before I say to others this is the Son of God. Jesus did so many miracles when He was on the earth and his disciples saw this yet they followed him for a long time before Peter said He was the son of God and even this centurion must of known of the things Jesus did, yet He had to see Him die before He proclaimed it. Jesus has done many miracles in my life and I know in my heart He is the Son of God, but it took a long time before I proclaimed did.

Application: Now that I know the truth about Jesus I need to tell others. I need to share the testimony I have of God’s love for me, like I did yesterday with the Junior High Ministry. What an honor it was to have the Holy Spirit speak through me and tell these young adults about the Son of God and what He did for me.

Prayer: Dear Lord I ask for wisdom and courage to proclaim your name to others. Continue to open doors for me to share the things you’ve done in my life. Lord I’m your vessel fill me up to overflowing so that your love will splash on those you surround me with.
