Asking the Advice of Elders
Scripture 2 Chron 10:6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, saying, “How do you advise me to answer these people?”
Observation: The older generation has been thrown to the side in our society, yet they are the ones who have seen much more than most and have made more mistakes and hopeful have learned from those mistakes. Most of us don’t think of this as a great resource in guiding our lives. God has given His word and has blessed us with people that surround us. We should be asking for their advice, weighing that advice to God’s word, but using it to help guide us from making bad decisions. Reach out to these wonderful people you and they both will be blessed.
Application: I always try to figure things out on my own without asking any advice and most of the time it is a bad decision. I need to seek out the people that might have the wisdom to guide me on a path of success, making sure they share the same faith. I need to spend more time with older people especially those in nursing homes and that are alone.
Prayer: My Lord no matter how old we are we are still your children and they are my brothers and sisters. Give me a heart for your children and show me what I can do to learn from them and to help them using the gifts you have given me. May I be of service to You as always.
