Knowing the Lord

Scripture: Hebrews 8: 11 No longer will a man teach his neighbor,
or a man his brother, saying, `Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.

Observation: I feel I know the Lord. I study His word and how He has and is working in my life. I know what He wants of me most of the time so I have no excuse when I don’t do it, which unfortunately is too often. God makes it clear that I need to bear fruit but He could starve with the fruit I have produced for Him, He ask me to love which I do very sparingly and He ask that I put Him first, which is where He belongs, but that’s not so either. I can’t play ignorant to my Lord I must plead guilty of disobedience.

Application: I know when I stray and when I’m not obeying. I need to stay the course with my God and bear fruit, abundant fruit that He and the angels may have a banquet on the harvest. I know who my God is enough to know when I’m obedient or not and it’s time for me to be obedient always.

Prayer: Dear Lord forgive me for being such a sinner and not turning from my sinful ways. I want to be the man you deserve me to me, help me honor you with this life and to finish this race in glory and honor to You,.

He Meets Our Needs

Scripture: Hebrews 7:26 Such a high priest meets our need–one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

Observation: Jesus is my high priest, my Savior and my Lord and He does meet all of my needs. I pray each night and thank God for putting Teri and I together as husband and wife. God provides shelter, food, clothing and health. I’ve never been in what for these things and He has given me so much more. So knowing all this why do I worry? You would think with all that I have gone through and looking back to see how I’ve been taken care of I would never worry again.

Application: I need to stop depending on myself, because that is where my doubt comes to play and focus on Jesus. Before I panic I need to pray and see what God has already done in my life and place the burden at the cross. I’m here to serve and accomplish a purpose that God has destined me to do and He will take care of the rest and I need enough faith to believe in that.

Prayer: Dear Lord thank you for you mercy and grace and for your provision of all my needs. I thank you for the way you have blessed me with my desires both material and spiritually. Open my eyes and direct me in the way you want me to go.

I Need to Stop Being Lazy

Scripture: Hebrews 6:[12] We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Observation: I know I’m lazy and I ask God in prayer to take this laziness away. It is so easy to do nothing and when I finally get off my butt and do something it seems like such a big struggle because I’m used to doing nothing. But when I do finally make a commitment to do something that honors God He gives me the strength to accomplish it and then after all my moaning and complaining He still blesses me.

Application: I’m here for a purpose and that purpose isn’t to delight in myself. It’s not to lay around and rest and take care of only my needs, but to fulfill the purpose God has created me for. My time is getting shorter and I’m still here to serve. I need to take a sip of the ultimate energy drink the living water and get off the couch and serve others in Jesus name.

Prayer: Help me Jesus, if it is up to me I would do nothing to further your kingdom. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and get me busy fulfilling the purpose you have created me for, so when I get home I could say mission accomplished in your name.

Distinguishing from Good and Evil

Scripture: Hebrews 5:[14] But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Observation: I thought it interesting the fact they trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. You would think you would know, but not in this world. I think we deceive ourselves because we don’t want to know the difference or want to justify what we want. We need the solid food, God’s word, to know right from wrong. We live in a world where killing children is okay, homosexuality is the new trend, lying is the way to get ahead and we keep God out of everything.

Application: I need to look at my life at all times to make sure I don’t get trapped in not being sure what is good and evil. I can’t conform to this world I have a Master and He has given me His instructions and the way He wants me to live this life He has given me. I need to stay in His instruction manual for my life.

Prayer: My Lord help me strive to do good all the time. Stir me away from doing anything that would displease you and draw me near to you.

Following His Example

Scripture: Hebrews 4: [15] For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin.

Observation: Jesus showed me the way to live the life that honors God. He went through so much more then I will ever have to and did everything perfectly. Jesus practiced what He preached, He loved everyone, showed others His love for the Father and did His Father’s will no matter what. He put himself and his needs below others and maintained a humble attitude.

Application: Jesus showed me the way and He told me He is with me always to help me get through my trials, temptations and shortcomings. I need to take the focus off myself and place it on doing God’s will. I need to put others before myself and not be so judgmental all the time. It’s time I pick up my cross and follow my Lord each day.

Prayer: Thank you Jesus for dying for me. I know I’m not worth it and will never understand the depth of your love for me. Please take me by the hand today and show me how to live in such a way that I to may hear, “behold my son with whom I am well please.”

Where Are My Thoughts?

Scripture: Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.

Observation: I have a hard time fixing my thoughts on any one thing at a time. My mind always seems to wander and normally to things I shouldn’t be thinking about at all. I waste so much time on thoughts that are not productive or useful for anything. I can only imagine how much closer to God I would be if my thoughts were constantly on Jesus. I would be doing and saying the right things and witnessing in a way that would honor my Father.

Application: I need to make a greater effort on concentrating on Jesus and what He wants of me. I know if I thought about Him first I wouldn’t be making the mistakes I do and instead of being useless I would become useful for God.

Prayer: My Lord your word tells me to think about things that are pure and loving and there is nothing like Jesus. Help me Lord wipe away all these useless thoughts and show me how to focus on my Savior.

Help Me Through My Temptations

Scripture: Hebrews 2: [18] Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Observation: I am tempted every day to either do something wrong or not do anything at all. The trouble is too often I give in to those temptations. My thoughts typically are negative and I find myself justifying wrong actions. If I catch myself I turn to my Lord for direction knowing if I give into my temptations I’m serving Satan and not my Father.

Application: I need to turn to Jesus as soon as the temptation shows itself. It’s not wrong to be tempted, but when I give in then I sin against God. I need to stop listening to my justifications and start depending on God’s word to give me direction.

Prayer: Dear Lord give me discernment on what is right and wrong and that I will turn to you for guidance to avoid these temptations. Show me how to be triumphant in this battle of my mind.
