Living a Life Worthy of the Calling

Scripture: Ephesians 4:1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

Observation: I should be a prisoner for the Lord, doing what he requires of me, captured by his love for me, confined to the area of his grace and obedient to the call he has put on my life.

Application: To realize I’m not free to do what I want to do in my sinful nature any longer. I’m a prisoner of God’s love for me and will be obedient to the call he has put on my life. To serve him and others in his name, for my sentence is eternal life, because of the mercy of my Lord, Jesus.

Prayer: Dear Father thank you for calling me out of this world to serve you. I am a bondservant and freely give you this life as a living sacrifice and beg that you use it to glorify you.

The Power Within Us

Scripture: Ephesians 3:20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

Observation: That God can do anything and that his power is within us, meaning through Christ I can do anything. Why then do I feel so powerless most of the time, so overwhelmed? With the power that is available to me I should be able to do anything with faith. Maybe that is my problem the lack of faith to get things done.

Application: To know the power of God in my life. To trust in the Lord with all my heart that he wants to work through me for his glory. Use the power God has given me to fulfill the purpose he has for my life. Live a life victoriously in my Lord.

Prayer: Dear Lord guide this servant to do the things you desire me to do. That through your power there is nothing I can’t do and may I do it in glory and honor to you. Increase my faith and guide me this day to serve you.

I’m God’s Workmanship

Scripture: Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Observation: I like the idea of being God’s workmanship, made special. That God took care in creating me and that there is a purpose for my existence. That there are things I’m supposed to do and that God prepared in advance for me to do these things.

Application: That I have a purpose and that purpose is to serve God in whatever capacity He desires. He has chosen things in advance for me to do and I need to get busy doing them. My life is drawing closer to the end and I want to complete the tasks he has set before me in glory and honor to him. I need to spend more time in prayer and reading to help me discover the works I am to do.

Prayer: Dear God put on my heart your desires and guide me through this day that I will complete the works you set before me in glory and honor to your name.

Adopted Sons Through Jesus Christ

Scripture: Ephesians 1:5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.

Observation: God knew I was going to come with Him all the time. I Look back at my life and don’t understand why God would even want me at all, let alone be his son. And bringing me closer to him is his good pleasure and his desire. I wish I can forgive others they way God forgave me and I wish I can love others like God does me.

Application: There is no way to payback God for all he has done for me yet I desire to try. God has called me his child and I want to be the best kid I can be. I want my Dad to be proud of me so I want to be obedient to all ha asked me to do and be a chip off the old block.

Prayer: Dear Father I thank you for loving this sinner, now your child so much. You are worthy of all my love, praise and obedience. Guide and show me how to be the best son I can be for you.

Becoming Weary Doing Good

Scripture: Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Observation: I become weary so easily. I will volunteer to serve and become tired just thinking about doing it at times, instead of how it honors God, which is why I’m doing it in the first place. The harvest is to bring others to Christ and the service I do for the Lord has done that and by doing more service it will guide even more to his saving grace.

Application: Do everything with joy and gladness because I am doing it to the Lord. I’m only here for one reason, to honor God. He created me to do the things I do and I should be so blessed that He has given me the skills and gifts to do them. Look for more opportunities to use the gifts he has given me and increase the harvest in his name.

Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you for all you’ve given me, I deserve nothing. May I use the gifts and talents I have to please you and touch the lives of those around me in glory and honor to your name.

Serving in Love

Scripture: Galatians 5:13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature, rather, serve one another in love.

Observation: It is so easy to fall into my sinful nature whether it is lust of the eyes, greed, envy and other sins committed against my brothers and sisters in Christ. I’m called only to love others and out of that love serve them. When I serve it should not be out of recognition or praise but to do it out of love for my Lord and that love needs to shine through to others.

Application: To pray through any sinful nature that will come out throughout each day. To look at others with the love of Christ and to serve them as I’m serving my savior. Find ways to help others and live a life that honors God.

Prayer: Dear God help me see others as you see them. Show me how to serve your children and draw closer to you each day. You are worthy of all my love, praise and obedience.

I’m No Longer a Slave

Scripture: Galatians 4:7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

Observation: I have been a slave to sin most of my life and even now am controlled from time to time by it, but Jesus set me free from that. I am a child of God, his son and the Kingdom of heaven belongs to me. How unbelievable that sounds to me that I will inherit heaven after all I’ve done to my Father. I am truly the prodigal son.

Application: To remember each day that I am a son of God and my Father deserves all the obedience that a good son would have for their perfect Father. To tell others of their inheritance that awaits for them in the name of Jesus and to live a life of peace and hope in my Father so others will be drawn close to Him.

Prayer: Dear Father I thank you for your love and am not worthy of the inheritance that you have set aside for me. Show me how to be a good son, an obedient one that will please you and make you proud. May I hear you say, “That’s my boy,” with pride.
