Forgive Them

Scripture: Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Observation: Jesus forgives even at the point of torture to those that are killing him. I can harbor unforgiveness for the smallest of offenses. My purpose in life is to be more and more like Jesus, to have a kinder heart, a more forgiving nature, make wiser decisions, to be more caring and obedient to my Father. There is nothing anyone can do to me that is worse than what I have done to God and yet he forgives me.

Application: To be more like Jesus. To stop and think before I react, what would Jesus do? To forgive any offenses and to pray to God for strength to be this man God calls me to be.

Prayer: Dear Lord I am a sinner and need your power to become this man that will honor you. Help guide me this day to draw nearer to you. Give me a forgiving heart that may glorify you.

God’s Will Be Done

Scripture: Luke 22:42 “Father if you are willing take this cup from me, yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Observation: There is so many things I would like taken away from me, such as this ringing in my ears, the tiredness, laziness, pain in my neck and shoulders and depression. I just want these things to go away, yet it’s not my will but God the Father. There are things I believe God wants me to do and He will help, like Paul he won’t take everything away, because his grace is sufficient.

Application: I need to pray and ask God’s will for things in my life. Knowing the things I need to change and ask for strength and guidance and help to change things to do his will.

Prayer: My Lord I’m weak and a sinner. Help me to change the things that aren’t honoring to you and make this life a testimony of your grace, mercy and love.

Give God What Is God’s

Scripture: Luke 20:25 “Caesar,” they replied. He said to them, “Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

Observation: So what is God’s? Everything, everything I have was given to me by God and belongs to him. My love, obedience, praise, worship and life is his. Even what I give to Caesar is what God commands me to give.

Application: Live this life giving back to God what is God’s. My life is his, may it be a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to my God. May my life be of value so as I dedicate it to God it may be worthy.

Prayer: Dear God I love you with all my heart even though I don’t always show you. Help me give to you what is yours and that it will be pleasing to you. I love you Lord.

Seeking the Lost

Scripture: Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.

Observation: I was created so that I would become more like Jesus, that is my goal each day. I should imitate his ways, teachings and actions. Jesus came to save the lost which I was one. That is also what I should be doing, seeking the lost and doing what I can through the Holy Spirit to save them.

Application: Seek each day those who need to hear the Word of God and speak it into their lives. Be more like my Lord and savior by showing everyone love and being the best representative I can for God.

Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you for seeking me out, then reaching out and saving me. May you fill me with the Holy Spirit and show me how to reach out to others in your name.

Have Mercy

Scripture: Luke 18:13 But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, “God have mercy on me a sinner.”

Observation: God has had mercy on me, this sinner. I may not have come as humble as I should have and only asked that he would just allow me to go without eternal punishment or reward. He showed me mercy and guided me through the rest of my life, never leaving me or forsaking me.

Application: I need to humble myself each day to my Lord. For I’m not worthy of Him, but he still loves me. I shouldn’t take his mercy lightly, but with gratitude and repentance, living a life worthy of the love he has for me.

Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you for the mercy and grace you show me each day and I ask that you guide me this day, that I will honor and glorify your name.

Doing My Duty

Scripture: Luke 17:10 So you also when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, “We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.”

Observation: Sometimes I think I’m better than most because I do a few things to honor God, but reality is I do very little of all I should be doing. I’m not worthy of God’s love or grace and I owe everything to him. I am an unworthy and lazy servant, yet God loves me. I deserve no praise or payment for what I do. I’m just trying to do my duty to my master.

Application: To be a better and appreciative servant. To complete the tasks God has given me with a thankful and willing spirit. To find ways to please my master and realize most of what I do is only a fraction of what I should be doing for God.

Prayer: My Lord and my master, guide this servant of yours to do what is right and pleasing in your sight. May I complete the duties you set before me in glory and honor to your name.

Can’t Serve Two Masters

Scripture: Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Observation: This is so true, I can’t be focused on my money and serve God whole heartily. Lately we have saved up some money and I’m thinking about buying cars, doing things around the house or a vacation, but I haven’t asked God what he wants me to do with His money. My master is God and everything is His.

Application: Live for my master. Ask what he desires of me and be obedient to his calling. Everything I have has been given to me by God and he can have it back whenever he desires. Put my Father first in all I do.

Prayer: Dear Lord open this servant’s eyes to your desires. You are my Lord, master and love and deserve all that I have. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and guide me to fulfill my purpose.
