Suffering Produces Perseverance

Scripture: Romans 5:3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance.

Observation: In my case suffering produces self-pity. Although God has proven again and again, He watches over me, when trouble comes, I’ll turn inward and ask why me. I know with faith in God suffering does produce perseverance and I need to turn to God in those times. There is nothing on this earth that can truly hurt me, even death is only the beginning of my eternal life with God.

Application: When suffering comes turn to God and ask him what he wants me to learn and do. There is a reason for everything that happens instead of asking myself why me, I need to be asking God what do you want me to do.

Prayer: Dear God may my eyes, mind and heart be open to you at all times.

Faith Credited as Righteousness

Scripture: Romans 4:5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

Observation: I read over and over in the bible to trust God. I even made several scripture cards that reference trust in God. Why is it so hard for me? God has shown is faithfulness over and over again in my life. He put Proverbs 3:5, 6 in my life to only trust him and he is so trustworthy. Yet each day I worry about things I have no control over.

Application: Today every time I worry about something or even think about something I shouldn’t be thinking of, I will recite Proverbs 3:5, 6. I will continue to strengthen my faith in love and trust in God.

Prayer: My God may my faith in you count as righteousness in your eyes.

Righteousness from Faith

Scripture: Romans 3:22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference.

Observation: I continue to do good through my own power and try to make myself right in God’s eyes. Each day I try not to commit a sin, but sooner or later I have thoughts that are wrong or say something or do something that dishonors God. My righteousness comes only from my belief of my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He only makes me right before the Father.

Application: I need to start living my life in thankfulness of Jesus. Trying harder each day to be more like my Lord. I know that does not make me righteous, but I owe it to my God to be my best.

Prayer: Dear God guide me to be more like your son who saved this sinner.

Getting What We Deserve

Scripture: Romans 2:6 God will give each person according to what he has done.

Observation: We have eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ, but there is even more. Heaven isn’t the same for everyone, there are different rooms, crowns and positions. We are called to bear fruit in this life according to our faith. God has a purpose and wants to use us, but it is our choice whether we do or don’t.

Application: I know I’m not supposed to be just sitting around. Time is short and I need to get going for God. There are people he wants me to witness to and things he wants me to do. I need to be able to see the opportunity and seize it for Christ.

Prayer: My Lord guide me and help me get busy for you.

Obedience That Comes from Faith

Scripture: Romans 1:5 Through him and for his name’s sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.

Observation: I know at times it must disappoint God to see such little faith in me, since he has done so much. I try hard to be obedient, but at times my mind wanders to my own desires. I need the obedience that comes from faith. Each day I pray that God will increase my faith, but what am I doing to increase it?

Application: I need to make a commitment to strengthen my faith to trust in the Lord with all my heart. To realize all God has done for me and commit my life to his will.

Prayer: My Lord guide me on this journey and increase my faith that I will obey you in every way.

Preaching Boldly

Scripture: Acts 28:31 Boldly and without hindrance he preached the Kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

Observation: My prayer is that I could preach the gospel of Jesus boldly and without hindrance. Why is it so hard for me to stand strong when telling others what I believe and know?

Application: I need to put the Kingdom of God first in my life. That there’s nothing more important than what I’m doing for God. Realize I’m only here for a short time, for one purpose and to focus my energies on that purpose. God watches over me and doesn’t matter what happens as long as I’m doing the will of God, for he is with me.

Prayer: Dear Lord give me strength to speak out and give me wisdom to know what to say.

Whom I Serve

Scripture: Acts 27:23 Last night an angel of God whose I am and whom I serve stood beside me.

Observation: Paul says he belongs to and serves God. Paul led a life that shows that statement is true. I lead my life with some days it’s true and other days those around me would never guess I’m a Christian.

Application: I continue to believe I’m my own instead of knowing I’m God’s. I need to know each moment that I belong to God and to seek the things he wants for me. I should look for opportunities to serve others in God’s name.

Prayer: My Lord, I freely give you this life as a living sacrifice use it in glory and honor to you.
