Believing Prayers

Scripture: Acts 12:15 “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”

Observation: All the wonders I see from answered prayers and I still try to explain them away. We pray that God will hear us and grant our request yet when prayer is answered we find it so hard to believe. This just shows my lack of faith that my prayers aren’t sincere, if I don’t believe God will answer.

Application: Pray expectantly knowing that my prayer is heard and answered. It may not be answered exactly the way I may want, but God will answer in His timing and in His way.

Prayer: My Lord I pray Knowing you hear me and love me.

I Want to Be a Good Man

Scripture: Acts 11:24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

Observation: I read this verse and that is the man I want to be, full of the Holy Spirit and faith. Some days I feel so far from being the man I want to be. I need to become that man however to fulfill my purpose to bring others to Christ. If people can’t see God working in me, why would they believe me?

Application: I need each day to become that good man. To have faith that God will work through me and that He will fill me with the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Dear God this day increase my faith, fill me with the Holy Spirit and guide me to people and speak your Word to them.

A Memorial Offering

Scripture: Acts 10:4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it Lord?” He asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.

Observation: That our gifts to the poor come up to God. That God sees all we do and our prayers and actions come before him as an offering is almost unbelievable. My wife just yesterday gave $5.00 to a poor woman and we gave money to the CARE ministry for food, those things came before God as an offering.

Application: To realize everything, we do comes to God’s attention. That there is nothing that escapes Him. To make offerings before God each day is our duty and honor.

Prayer: My God this day may I leave a memorial offering at you alter.

Tell Me What to Do

Scripture: Acts 9:6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

Observation: Sometimes I wish God would just tell me what to do. I try to figure out what He wants of me each day and pray that I would hear his voice. I’ll do things hoping it is the right thing to do, but not sure.

Application: To listen more carefully and to meditate on his Word. I know when I go out of my way and serve others that is his will. To continue to serve others in his name and use more of my time serving and listening.

Prayer: Dear Lord speak to me and guide me in this day so I may hear and obey you.

Rejoicing

Scripture: Acts 8:39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Phillip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing

Observation: I have so much to rejoice about yet I focus on the negatives of this life. God has granted me a renewal of my heart and mind and I know I’m saved. This is more than enough to rejoice no matter what happens.

Application: I need to focus on what is important, my God. I should go rejoicing each day knowing I belong to Him. When this time is up, I’ll be with my Lord and savior and my Father for all eternity now that is something to rejoice about.

Prayer: Dear Lord open my eyes each day to what you have given me and may I rejoice with the thought of you.

Forgiveness Like Jesus

Scripture: Acts 7:60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Observation: Here Stephen is being stoned to death and his last words are the same as Jesus. Forgive them Father. Why is it I have a difficult time forgiving others or forgetting how they might have wronged or upset me in some way. Because my focus is on me and not what God wants. How it must have honored God to hear those words of Stephen, when he fell asleep he was there in God’s arms.

Application: To be more focused on what pleases God and to realize each person is a child of God. Then realize how much God has forgiven me.

Prayer: My Lord fill me with the Holy Spirit and give me the forgiving heart of your Son.

Speaking Wisdom

Scripture: Acts 6:10 but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the spirit by whom he spoke.

Observation: I think of the time Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons have come to my door. Sometimes God would put the words in my mouth and scriptures on my heart. I need to continue to read the Word and to build up wisdom for those times so the Holy Spirit speaks those words when needed. I need to be obedient by reading and meditating on the Word of God so I may witness by the Spirit of God.

Application: To meditate and memorize scripture and to pray for God’s wisdom. To boldly share the gospel and to reach out to the lost.

Prayer: Dear Lord fill me with the Holy Spirit so I can share your Word with those you put on my path.
