Managing Our Family

Scripture: 1 Timothy 3: [5] (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)

Observation: That indicates where a man should spend his time. First with God in prayer and devotion. Next with family above ministry. I think people believe they are holier when they spend a lot of time at church instead at home. It’s probably because it’s easier doing ministry than raising a family God’s way.

Application: Even though my children are grown and out on their own I need to keep that contact, especially with my son. I need to make amends with him and ask for forgiveness for not being there when he needed me.

Prayer: My God make me a better husband, father and grandfather so that I will glorify you.

Prayers for Everyone

Scripture: 1 Timothy 2: I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone–

Observation: Prayers and thanksgiving for everyone. My prayers are very limited and the people I don’t care for I almost invoke a curse. That is not God’s way. He wants everyone to be saved and He asks me to pray for others. How can I say no to the God who loves and saved me.

Application: Examine my prayers and ask who am I leaving out, the homeless person I passed, government officials, my boss or someone that aggravates me. Check my list when I see someone that needs prayer, pray right then for them.

Prayer: My Lord guide me with the Holy Sprit to pray for those you put in my path and those in authority over me.

The Worst Sinner

Scripture: 1 Timothy 1: 15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst.

Observation: I think of my past, all the sins I committed and how easily it was for me to sin. I can have looked at myself as the worst of sinners. If I was God I would have skipped right over me and let me burn in hell for all eternity, I deserved it. Yet He showed me mercy and saved me.

Application: Each day I need to realize what God as done for me, how He saved this sinner so I can live a life honoring Him. I need to share my testimony with others and show God I love Him.

Prayer: My Lord you have reached out and saved this sinner. Show me how to glorify you this day.

Tiring of Doing Right

Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 3: [13] And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.

Observation: Just yesterday Teri and I were talking about a lot of our time is tied up in church ministry. Its only time taken away from watching television and relaxing. How terrible it is to weigh the small amount of time I use to do right from the sacrifice my Lord gave for me.

Application: I need to start each day in prayer and take some time to think of all the things God has done for me. He asks me to live a Godly life, doing what is right. He deserves more than I can give Him so I should never tire of doing right.

Prayer: My Lord my time is yours, not only a tenth, but all of it. May each decision, action and thought glorify you.

Encourage Your Hearts

Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 2: [17] encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

Observation: The verse before says that Jesus and our Father encourage and strengthens us in every good deed and word. We can’t expect God to do a good work if we aren’t doing good things. When we do things that are out of the will of God we are on our own. God may protect us, but He is more concerned about our character and disciplining us so we live a life glorifying Him.

Application: Make a conscience decision each day to do only good deeds and to speak good words. This way I know God will encourage me to continue to do right and give me the power to do it.

Prayer: My Lord I am a sinner with a sinful nature. It is only through you that I can do anything good. Guide me today to do your will and encourage me and strengthen me to complete it.

Fulfilling My Purpose

Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 1: 11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.

Observation: I want to be worthy of God’s calling. It would be great to finish this life in a way that God would count it worthy. Knowing that it’s His power that will fulfill my purpose in my life and not my own.

Application: I need to live a life worthy of God, but depend on His power to complete my purpose and depend on Him for success of my ministries.

Prayer: My God, I give you my life as a living sacrifice. All that I do and the purpose you have created me for I leave in your hands. May I glorify you.

Giving Thanks

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5: [18] give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Observation: Each night and morning I pray and thank God for all He has done and given me. Yet during the day when I’m under pressure I don’t stop and thank Him for all that He has given me and no matter what happens to me on this earth He has given me an eternal home with Him.

Application: I need to make a point each day, each hour to stop for a moment and pray and tell God thank you for all He has given me. All day long I should have a thankful spirit and that needs to show to others.

Prayer: My God thank you for this life you have given me, making me, me. May I be the best I can be for you and glorify your name with this life.
