The Example of Christ

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11 [1] Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Observation: How many times should people follow me. Not very often, the way I act. I’m supposed to be a light, an example of what a Christian should be, but most of the time I’m not. I know how I’m supposed to be, I have the best teacher, but so often I fall back on my sinful nature.

Application: Think before I act and follow what Jesus would do, not what I want to do. Be an example to others leading them to my Lord. Be calm and think before I do and when things go well point others to Jesus.

Prayer: Dear Lord I need your help to be this man you desire me to be. Take charge, fill me with the Holy Spirit and guide me each day. Humble me before others so they will only see You.

All for the Glory of God

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Observation: During the course of a day how much of what I do is done for the glory of God? Not much most of the times, I’m more concerned about myself then God. What a terrible attitude after all God has done for me.

Application: Before I do anything I need to stop and see how it can be done for the glory of God. Whether at work, around others or even by myself, God has to become first in my decision. It’s not that difficult to please God, all I have to do is put Him first, where He belongs.

Prayer: Dear Lord help take this selfishness away from me and fill me with your Holy Spirit and show me how to glorify you in all that I do.

Woe to Me

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9 [16] Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

Observation: We preach in different ways. God has given me gifts and talents to use for His glory and woe to me if I don’t use them. My laziness has overcome me from fulfilling the purpose God has made me for and I need to get on track on what God desires of me.

Application: I need to make a strong effort to be doing something for God each day. There is so much to do and yet I do so little. Pray and ask God what He desires of me whether the CIA or depression ministry or something else and make an effort to do it.

Prayer: Dear Lord help me preach the gospel and finish this race well. Open doors for me to go through and show me how to turn these gifts that you have given me to save souls in Your name.

Do I Puff or Build

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 8:1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

Observation: I know when I have knowledge about something that I can get prideful, especially if that knowledge give me leadership over others. So I can use that knowledge to show off or I can use it to help others and build them up.

Application: I have an opportunity each day at work to use my knowledge and assert authority or I can use the opportunity to take the time and show someone. I need to listen more to the people around me and expand my knowledge to draw nearer to others.

Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you for the gifts and talents that You have given me. Show me how to use these in glory and honor to you to build up others and guide them to You.

Where Was I?

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 7:[20] Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him.

Observation: God called me at the height of my depression, when I had nowhere else to go. He led me to write a book and to speak to others about depression and then He called me to serve. Serve others and take the focus off myself.

Application: Continue to use the testimony God has given me to reach others suffering. Tell them about God’s love and the hope that is only in Christ. Do not get lazy but persevere in fulfilling God’s purpose in my life.

Prayer: Dear Lord open doors for your servant and open my eyes in what it is You want me to do. Show me how to fulfill the purpose You have called me to.

I’ve Been Bought

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:[20] you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Observation: I keep thinking about me. What would be best for me, as if I was my own man. In reality I’m not the master but a servant of my master and owner, God. Jesus paid the price for my eternal soul and I should be honoring Him each day with the life He has given me.

Application: Remember who and what I am and who owns me. Live each day knowing I’m living it for God and not myself. Look at people through my Master’s eyes and not mine, with love and compassion.

Prayer: Dear Lord give me the heart of a servant. May I bring a smile to your face, that you will be will pleased with me. May I hear the words when I get to go home, “Well done good and faithful servant.”

God will Judge

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 5:12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?

Observation: I judge inside and outside the church. I compare people to my ideal and not God’s. My job is to love my neighbor, not to judge them. Within the church I am to help my brothers and sisters stay on God’s path and not my path for them.

Application: May I help as much as I judge, may I spread the gospel more then I gossip. That I will give more then I take and treat others the way I want to be treated.

Prayer: Dear Lord help me be the man, servant, Christian you desire me to be. That I will fulfill my purpose in this world before going home to You.
