My Priest Makes Atonement for Me

Scripture Leviticus 5: [18] He is to bring to the priest as a guilt offering a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value. In this way the priest will make atonement for him for the wrong he has committed unintentionally, and he will be forgiven.

Observation: In the old testament the priest had to make atonement for the sinner. The person would bring the sacrifice, but the priest had to be the one to make atonement for them. Now the new testament I have a Lord, Savior and Priest in Jesus. Jesus goes before the Father to make atonement for my sins as I confess them to the Lord. I don’t need to bring any sacrifice, because Jesus provided me with the only sacrifice acceptable to God and that was His perfect life. Now all I need to bring is a repentant heart and a sincere and humble attitude and ask to be forgiven.

Application: Always remember the sacrifice that my Lord made so that my sins can be forgiven. There is no other priest that will atone for my sins and I need to come before Him with a humble and grateful spirit and do my best to avoid sin. I should never take lightly want was sacrificed for me and because of Jesus love for me I have a new home that I will be able to go to.

Prayer: Thank you Jesus for loving this sinner. I thank you for the sacrifice you made for me and may I never forget You during the course of each day that I will try my best to live a life that pleases you. I love you Lord help me do better.

Unintentional Sin

Scripture Leviticus 4:27 ” `If a member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the LORD’s commands, he is guilty.

Observation: At first how can you sin without knowing it and then I looked back in the past and saw it. Most of the time for me it was when I was trying to justify myself to someone and cared more about winning an argument then caring about the person I was in disagreement with. Most of the times I sin unintentionally is when I’m thinking more of me then others and it’s not until it’s over that I realize the sinful lengths I went to win. It’s not okay to say well it’s over I need to come before God and ask for His forgiveness and more importantly the discernment not to do it again.

Application: I need to think before I act or speak and try to avoid committing the sin in the first place, but if I do, I need to go before God and also reach out to the person I sinned against and ask for forgiveness. Even if someone might not consider it a sin, we know better and if I reach out it will stay in my heart to help me avoid selfish sin in the future.

Prayer: Dear Lord I am a sinner and I do care about myself above others. Humble your servant that I will put your desires and the needs of others above my own. I know this isn’t my nature so fill me with the Holy Spirit and guide me to do what is honoring to you.

Without Defect!!

Scripture Leviticus 3:6 ” `If he offers an animal from the flock as a fellowship offering to the LORD, he is to offer a male or female without defect.

Observation: Can you imagine offering the Lord a life without defect, that surely wouldn’t be mine. Besides my obvious physical defects my heart, mind and soul also have a variety of defects. Maybe that is what God was trying to say that He demands a sacrifice and a life without defects but the only way we can accomplish that is through His son Jesus. Jesus was the only one who ever lived that had no defect and he is willing to take my place so my heavenly Father may look upon Jesus so that I may be forgiven.

Application: Realize my lack of ability to offer my Lord a sacrifice and life without defect and then bow down to my Lord Jesus with love and gratitude that He would substitute for me so that I may be acceptable to my Father. Live the best life I can to imitate my Savior and to tell others what my Lord has done for me.

Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you for taking my place and allowing me to be with you when this life is over in heaven. Thank you for always staying in the gap that my heavenly father sees you and your righteousness and not my sinful ways. I know I will never be worthy but show me how to honor you in this life until it is time to go home.

God Desires Salt

Scripture Leviticus 2: [13] Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.

Observation: This is the first time I noticed this scripture about how God commands salt in His offerings. The first thing I think of is when Jesus told us we were the salt of the world and if salt losses its saltiness what good is it. I feel that is what God is telling us here that He demands salt and doesn’t want a bland child, but one that will give flavor to their witness and will enrich this world with their presence.

Application: I need to stop being so bland with the way I tell others about my Lord, or when I tell them anything at all. I’m God’s condiment to some of the fallen in this world that need Him so desperately. I tread each day when I go to work instead of letting it be an opportunity to season someone else’s life. I need to sop being tasteless in what I say and how I act but be that encouragement to others and help guide them to my God.

Prayer: Dear Lord you demand salt and I want to obey you in all you ask me. Guide me each day to be salt in this tasteless world I live in and point others toward you so their life will be as rich as mine filled with your love.

Aroma Pleasing to the Lord

Scripture Leviticus 1: [17] He shall tear it open by the wings, not severing it completely, and then the priest shall burn it on the wood that is on the fire on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.

Observation: In this chapter every sacrifice was an aroma pleasing to the Lord. Did God really like the way they smelled or was it that the people were trying to atone for their sins? It seems every sacrifice whether burnt or grain was pleasing to the Lord, I think because we realize we sinned and needed God to forgive us and that is what was pleasing to the Lord, not the sacrifice itself.

Application: I need to be more aware of my actions to see if they are pleasing to God or more of a stench and if I do sin against my Lord I need to stop and beg for His forgiveness and humble myself. Jesus has already made the sacrifice, but I need to try to live a more holy life to honor what He has done for me. This life belongs to God and it’s just on loan to me and I want to return it in good condition.

Prayer: My Lord forgive me for my hateful thoughts of people, my lazy ways and my self-centerrness. May this life be a living sacrifice, Holy and pleasing to you each day and guide me to be better each day for you. I love you Lord and I do what to be a pleasing aroma to you.

Doing What the Lord Commands

Scripture Exodus 40: [16] Moses did everything just as the LORD commanded him.

Observation: In this chapter at the end of every paragraph it said the Moses did as the Lord commanded. I wish after every day I would be able to say that, but it wouldn’t be true. It seems what I want wins out way to often compared to what my Lord commands of me. His commands are simple and easy to follow, but you must die to yourself to carry them out. His commands tell us to serve, love and honor Him and others above ourselves and for most of us that is a little more than what we want to do.

Application: I am only here to do what the Lord commands, I have no other purpose so whenever I disregard my Lord, I’m going against His will. I need to humble myself each day and put my Lord’s will above all things. There is nothing more important than my God and I need to live a life that shows that. Every person I meet is a child of God and deserves the love and respect my Lord commands me to give to them.

Prayer: My Lord fill me with the Holy Spirit so I will follow each command. I’m a sinner and self-centered and I need your strength to carry out your commands. Help me to love others and put their needs above mine, this is something I can’t do on my own. I love you and what to honor you by being obedient, help me my Lord.

Blessings for Obedience

Scripture Exodus 39: [43] Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the LORD had commanded. So Moses blessed them.

Observation: God’s promises are contingent on if we obey His commands. He can’t bless sinful actions and disobedience, but He desires to bless us when we obey His commands. God’s commands are for our own good He needs nothing from us and desires to love and grow us closer to Him. Obedience will always be blessed, but we may not always see the blessing here, but in front of our God He will bring account what we have done for His glory.

Application: I need to be obedient in all that I do. I know what my Lord wants and if I can get this selfishness away and put Him first in my thoughts and deeds then I can live the life He desires for me. He wants to bless me and I need His blessings, I can’t live without them.

Prayer: My Lord and Master, may I always remember that is what you are my Master, my loving and caring Master. You are so worthy of my obedience and best, help me live this life in a way that pleases you, for I have no other purpose but to be here for you.
