How to Serve

Scripture: Ephesians 6:[7] Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,

Observation: I’ve been attempting to have a different attitude at work by remembering that everything I do should be for my Lord. I’ve been more loving and friendly towards other, but still have my sarcastic moments as I express my inner feelings. I realize I’m only here for a little while longer and I need to make the best effort I can to be more like Christ in this world to help point others to Him.

Application: I need to die to self. My pride gets in the way and I need to realize all I have comes from God and I need to use those gifts for His glory not mine. I need to stay in prayer throughout the day to keep in my heart that my service is to my King.

Prayer: Dear Lord humble your servant that I may honor you in all that I do. I’m here only through your good graces, may I fulfill the purpose your created your servant for.

Understanding the Lord’s Will

Scripture: Ephesians: [17] Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

Observation: I will like to say that I don’t know what God’s will is, so I can live a life of selfishness. Yet He wrote it down in His word. I know how I’m supposed to live, I know I should be using my gifts to help others, I know what I’m not supposed to do, I know what God has written in His world, but I don’t live it every day.

Application: My time in this place continues to get shorter and I draw near to going home. I need to live the life God has in store for me here with obedience and make a difference for Him.

Prayer: Dear Lord take my hand and my heart and lead me through each day. Take away this laziness and give me strength and courage to do your will in my life.

Works of Service

Scripture: Ephesians 4: [12] to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up

Observation: God has prepared me for works of service, but am I doing them. He allows me choice so do I choose to look at my own desires or the needs of others? God will equip me, but not force me. I wish He would force me.

Application: Look for opportunities to serve instead of avoiding them. Be quiet when I pray so that I may hear God’s voice guiding me in what He wants of me.

Prayer: Dear Lord please take this laziness away and stop my excuses to do nothing. Open the doors for me to serve others in your name, to use the gifts and talents you have given me so they don’t go to waste.

Grasping the Love of Jesus

Scripture: Ephesians 3:[18] may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

Observation: If I understood the depth of Jesus’ love I would not worry or be anxious. I wouldn’t think about the future and how I should handle situations, but depend on the love of Christ to get me through. I would have the motivation I need to fulfill the purpose God has given me and do good works to His glory.

Application: I should start each day after prayer to realize what Jesus has done for me to be where I am. I need to let it sink in that He gave everything so that I might be able to be with Him one day for all eternity. I need to live my life with the love Jesus has for me and to share that love with others.

Prayer: Dear Lord I know You love me and you have proven that love over and over again. Guide me each day to share that love with others and to show you how much I love you.

I’m God’s Workmanship

Scripture: Ephesians 2:[10] For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Observation: I keep putting myself down, not realizing I’m God’s workmanship. God created me then gave me talents and gifts to fulfill a purpose. He has set me up to do good works, He has a plan for me. Unfortunately He doesn’t force me to do anything, but out of love for Him I should be doing these good works.

Application: Realize who I belong to and hat I was created by a perfect God who loves me and desires to bless me. I have a purpose and I need to get off my butt and start fulfilling that purpose each day and to make a decision to do good works for His glory.

Prayer: Dear Father show me the good works you desire of me that You prepared in advance for me to do. Don’t let me fail, but guide me each day to glorify You.

God’s Good Pleasure

Scripture: Ephesians 1: [9] And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,

Observation: I keep praying to know God’s will and I to know what He desires of me. It’s written in His Word what He expects of me and just choose not to do it most of the time. I know I’m supposed to become more like Jesus, loving others, spreading the gospel and keeping His commands, but not until I read this verse it’s for His good pleasure. God is blessed when I do what I was created to do.

Application: To make it a point each day to do something that brings God pleasure. To live this life He has given me each day to bring a smile to His face.

Prayer: Dear Lord guide me to do what honors you. Show me how to please you and bring you joy in what I do today. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and guide me through each day.

Taking the Opportunity

Scripture: Galatians 6 [10] Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Observation: This morning I was walking and a gentleman asked me to help someone who fell and couldn’t get up. I went inside and helped get him up on his walker and left. When I left I felt the Holy Spirit and I thanked God for the opportunity and health to be able to help. So why don’t I search out more opportunities to help others instead of avoiding them?

Application: I know there are always opportunities to help others and I need to stop avoiding them and start searching them out. I’m here to serve as Jesus was and I need to get busy putting myself out there to help. Jesus told me to love others and I can’t accomplish that by sitting on my couch watching television.

Prayer: Dear Lord I give you this life please take it and use it for your glory. Help me finish this race the way You want me to finish and take this selfishness away.
