He Gave Himself Up for Our Sins

Scripture: Galatians 1: [4] who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father

Observation: Sometimes I forget all that Jesus did for me. I take it for granted that my mind has been renewed, my depression is gone, I am with the most wonderful women ever and I have eternal life all because of the sacrifice and love of my savior, Jesus Christ. He rescued me from this evil age and has given me hope and a purpose to fulfill.

Application: To remember each day Jesus sacrifice for me and that he did it out of love and the will of the Father. That my life is not my own, but that I belong to God and everything I have was given me to God to steward. I owe my existence to Jesus and I need to live this life that way, not for selfish reasons, but to do the will of the Father.

Prayer: Dear Lord I am so grateful for your sacrifice I couldn’t exist without you and I thank you for this life you have given me now and for eternity. Show me how to do the will of the Father that I may glorify you.

Am I in Faith?

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you–unless, of course, you fail the test?

Observation: I hate tests, always did. I was so afraid to fail and now I’m asked to test myself in one of the most important parts of my Christian life, faith. I know I failed the test before, several times. I know Christ is within me or I wouldn’t even be here and without his strength I wouldn’t been able to accomplish anything. I examined myself and my faith is weak, but is getting stronger each day.

Application: To examine myself daily to see where I stand in my faith. To depend on God each day so that my faith will grow stronger as I see him working in my life. Be willing to test my faith each day as I know the Lord is with me.

Prayer: Dear Father increase my faith and draw me nearer to you. Test me to see if my faith is honoring to you. You are my Lord and my master show this servant how to please you this day.

When I am Weak then I am Strong

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Observation: My pride use to be so bad, I felt everything depended on me, but now I know different. My trials have shown my weakness as I would break down in depression and want to give up totally. It wasn’t until I was saved that when I was down I had someone to look up to, my Lord and Savior, Jesus. He is where my strength comes from and I’m totally helpless to do anything for myself, he is my strength.

Application: Realize all the time where my strength comes from. Live a life of dependency on my Lord and service to him and others in his name. Reach out to him right away when things start getting hard and walk with him through the trials and not alone.

Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you for always being there for me and guiding me through this life. You are my strength and the reason I exist may I always look to you and depend on you.

Being Deceived

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the servant’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

Observation: I am often deceived sometimes from Satan and other times because I want to be deceived. I want something so bad I can convince myself that it’s from God but it’s not. When God calls me to do something for him I can justify in my mind I tried and it didn’t work out because it’s to much work or I rather do something else. I am to easily swayed away from my purpose and God’s will for my life.

Application: To test the decisions I make and what I do with God’s word. He has made it easy to do his desires opposed to mine. Stay focused on God’s plan for my life and be careful not to be deceived.

Prayer: Dear Lord guide me each day to do your will. Give me strength and discernment on following you. May I not be led astray but put on the path you set before me.

The One the Lord Commends

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:18 For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord Commends.

Observation: I used to be very boastful to others bragging about things I could do and have done or at least thought I had done. I felt I needed to bring myself up because no one else would do it for me. I have nothing and am nothing accept for what the Lord has made me and works through me. My Lord will only commend me when I’m doing His will and His will his to worship him.

Application: I need to be focused on God and try my best to please him. That the Lord will commend me because I’m saying the words He wants me to say, doing the things he wants me to do and being the man he wants me to be.

Prayer: Dear Father I am only a man and I get caught up in this world and the flesh of pride. I am nothing in myself, but I am a child of yours. Teach me how to fulfill the purpose you have created me for.

Sowing Sparingly

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Observation: I sow sparingly, unfortunately. I only give out of my abundance, what I feel I should give. I’m obedient with giving my tithe and some of my time to honor God, but in comparison to his love and grace I’m a miser. God has given me so much I wonder what would happen if I gave generously, the harvest I would reap.

Application: I need to sow generously in the field that God has given me, not for personal gain, but to be obedient to my Father. There is so much to do and God has given me so much. It’s time to sow generously for my Lord.

Prayer: Dear God I am selfish and always have been. Help me give what honors you and to be this man you call me to be. May this life bless you this day as I touch the life of one of your children.

Doing What is Right

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 8:21 For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.

Observation: Why care that we are doing right in the eyes of men? Our witness depends on what others see of us. They are looking closely to see if we mess up so they have an excuse not to believe. We must walk our talk and honor God in all that we do and show others the love of God in us.

Application: To lead a life that will draw others nearer to God. Not to be double minded, but single minded of God. That my life would be a reflection of God’s goodness and faithfulness.

Prayer: Dear Lord only you can make me the man you desire me to be. I freely give you this life, use it for your glory.
