He Sees Through Us

Scripture: Luke 20:23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them

Observation: God sees through our excuses, lies and flattery. There is nothing we can hide from him. If I say I’m sorry and want to repent and don’t mean it, I’m only fooling myself. If my prayers aren’t sincere God knows it.

Application: Before I speak or act, I must check my heart and motives to make sure they are honest before I pray my heart must be right.

Prayer: My Lord give me a clear mind and honest heart. May I not try to deceive You or others.

Seek and to Save

Scripture: Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.

Observation: Our Lord and Savior’s purpose was to seek and save what was lost. Then that should be my purpose, but how much time do I devout to that? Not much. My time is spent on satisfying myself more than service to help the lost.

Application: I need to purposely seek the lost of this world and to share Jesus’ saving message. To live a life that points to my savior. To assist my church, helping to bring others to him. I need to take the focus off me and put it on the purpose God has given me.

Prayer: My Lord if you can use anything please use me to complete the task you have set before me and glorify your name.

I’m a Sinner

Scripture: Luke 18:13 But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, “God have mercy on me a sinner.”

Observation: That is me a sinner. Every day I start by asking God to guide me and show me how to please him. Yet I don’t think a day has gone by that my thoughts and actions become sinful and displease him. Yet there is not a day that goes by that God doesn’t show his mercy on this undeserving sinner.

Application: Try harder each day not to sin, but if I fail the task, thank God for his mercy and ask for strength to do better.

Prayer: My Lord have mercy on me, a sinner, and guide me to be more the man you desire me to be.

Unworthy Servants

Scripture: Luke 17:10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do , should say, “We are unworthy servants, we have done our duty.”

Observation: So many times, I feel when I do something for God, I’m doing him a favor. In reality God is my Lord and master and I have an obligation to serve him. I know my God is also a loving Father, but I have a responsibility to do his will and serve Him and others in His name.

Application: When I don’t feel like doing something that would honor God, I need to realize it is not an option but a command from my Lord.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for all you give me and I deserve none of it. Thank you for your love, mercy and grace that I receive each day. May I be obedient to all you ask from me.

God or Money

Scripture: Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Observation: I never thought I served money but lately my thoughts have been about an inheritance my wife received. I think about paying off our bills and buying a house. It’s taking up a lot of my time and I worry about getting the money. Then I think of how much of my thoughts are based on money, job, bills, possessions and I realize I’m not serving God.

Application: Start focusing more on what God wants me to do and not worry about money. He has taken care of me all these years and I’ve always had what I need.

Prayer: My Lord help increase my faith making you always my Master.

Rejoicing over Repentance

Scripture: Luke 15:7 I tell you in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

Observation: I continue to ask for God’s will and to show me how to please him. Here it is in his word to help bring sinners to the light of Christ. Yet I spend very little of my time reaching out to others and searching for the lost.

Application: Make a true effort to seek out the people who are lost and tell them about what God as done for me.

Prayer: My Lord I cry out to do your will. Guide me today to someone who needs to know about you. Give me the words to say and the strength to say them.

Humble Yourself

Scripture: Luke 14:11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Observation: Most of my life I tried to exalt myself, be more important than I was. I remember almost every time I did, I made a fool of myself. Now that the Lord has my life, I try to be humble in all situations and because of this God has given me this wonderful appreciation of what He has done in me. To serve others is my greatest joy and I know that is what God has created me for.

Application: To continue to serve with no excuses this time. To lead only when asked and always be available to serve.

Prayer: My Lord may this servant serve you by serving others in your Name.
