Who Does God Listens to

Scripture: John 9:31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.

Observation: God may hear everyone but He chooses to listen to the ones who want to do his will. I’m still a sinner and I prove that each day. When I’m in that sinful state God doesn’t listen because I’m not listening to Him. I truly want to do God’s will and when I do cry out, He hears and guides me.

Application: When I feel God isn’t listening, I need to ask myself am I doing God’s will or mine? I’m not ignorant I know God’s will, He makes it clear I have no excuses.

Prayer: Lord hear my cry and guide me each day to be in your will. May I glorify you today.

Who is Without Sin?

Scripture: John 8:7 When they kept on questioning him he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Observation: I wonder how many stones I throw in the course of a week? The negative comment, harsh words, wrongful action to someone. How many sins do I commit each day? Only because of Jesus sacrifice are my sins are forgiven I should at least be able to forgive and love others.

Application: I shouldn’t talk about someone else unless it’s supportive and encouraging. I should never throw a stone since I’m one of the worst sinners and have found mercy through Jesus.

Prayer: My Lord Strengthen me to help and encourage and to think before I act.

Streams of Living Water

Scripture: John 7:38 Whoever believes in me as the scriptures has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.

Observation: As I believe more in my Lord and savior and read the Bible each day, I draw nearer to the Holy Spirit. I find there are more times when I’m supposed to speak to someone the words are put in my heart. I have more compassion for others then I had before and more love. I want to serve and love my wife with all my heart. Things I never had before Christ was my Lord but now the Holy Spirit dwells within me.

Application: Allow the Holy Spirit to take over more of my life and to let him have his way with me.

Prayer: Dear God fill me with the Holy Spirit and guide my life to fulfill the purpose you have created me for.

Don’t Be Afraid

Scripture: John 6:20 But He said to them,” It is I; don’t be afraid.”

Observation: Things happen every day and when I know I’m doing what God calls me to do, He is with me. So many times, I doubt and fear comes over me.

Application: I need to close my eyes and hear my Lord and Savior tell me it’s him. Once I realize He is with me there is no reason to be afraid. God is always with me and instead of a sense of fear I should be encouraged no matter what happens He is by my side.

Prayer: My Lord in the dark call out to my heart that you are there and calm my spirit.

The Praise of God

Scripture: John 5:44 How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?

Observation: I realize how many things I do, to try to win the praise of others. Even when I think I’m doing something for God I look for the praise of the people around me. When I do something private for God however, I feel his praise which so surpasses that of men.

Application: I need to do more things for God quietly, just for him. Even though most of the things I do are for other people and are visible by others, God needs to get all the glory.

Prayer: My Lord may I live each day seeking your praise.

Finish His Work

Scripture: John 4:34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”

Observation: Doing God’s work is so important that I should need to do it to live. It should be my nourishment and sustain while I continue to fulfill my purpose in life. I’m created by God to fulfill his will and when I do it blesses me and brings me joy to know that I honor Him.

Application: I need to act as if I don’t do God’s will I will starve. To be in the midst of God’s will is like being at a banquet.

Prayer: My Lord may I do your will and have the knowledge and wisdom to know what to do and the strength and courage to do it.

I Must Become Less

Scripture: John 3:30 He must become greater; I must become less

Observation: Becoming less is so hard for me to do. I think of myself most of the time (what do I want, I’m hungry, I’m tired, etc.) I do have a selfish attitude. But until I become less no one is going to see Jesus through me, all they’ll see is me.

Application: In the way I talk and all that I do Jesus needs to be greater in my life. Before I do anything, I need to pray and ask God how I may glorify him.

Prayer: My Lord you are so much greater than I, may I live this life becoming less while you increase.
