God My Potter

Scripture: Romans 9:21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?

Observation: I’m sitting on an airplane going home to my wife. I continue to ask God to reveal my purpose, thinking I might be a pastor, author or missionary. God has created me with special gifts and talents. Maybe I’m a common pot used for serving others and that’s all. That’s alright with me, because I was created by the greatest and designed especially to be me.

Application: I need to realize each day that I was created perfectly to be me. My purpose isn’t that people should notice me, but see my creator in the things I do and the pottery I am.

Prayer: My Lord continue to shape me each day into the vessel you desire.

God’s Working Good

Scripture: Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Observation: I know I have been called by the way God has changed my life, my thoughts, desires and actions. Now that I know that, I need to realize no matter what happens God will work it out for my good. Something will always come out of a situation no matter how terrible it may seem.

Application: To walk each day with Holy Spirit and look for how God is working in each situation. Find what it is I’m supposed to be learning and put it into practice.

Prayer: My Lord open my eyes and guide me knowing you are with me, growing me, drawing me closer to what you desire of me.

What Am I Doing?

Scripture: Romans 7:15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Observation: Right after I do something wrong, I ask myself, why did I do that?” I know what I’m supposed to be doing, I know the things that honor God, but they take some discipline to do. It’s so convenient for me to avoid anything that takes effort. I know I should be working on my ministry for God yet it takes me away from what I think I want to do, which is normally is nothing.

Application: I need to set some goals in accomplishing what God wants for me and start pressing towards the prize. Each day set a goal that will get me a little closer to my purpose in glorifying God.

Prayer: My Lord draw me near so I may hear. Give me the discipline I need to complete the task you set before me.

Don’t Let Sin Reign

Scripture: Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

Observation: Each day is a battle for me not to have sin reign in my life. I start each day in prayer and offer my life to God and that he would guide me. Yet it is so easy to stray in my mind whether lust, greed, anger or self pride, then sin takes over my thoughts. God however is always with me answering my prayers. Even though the thoughts are there, rarely do I obey these evil desires.

Application: I need to try harder to stop sin in my thinking. Jesus taught that even those thoughts are sins in themselves. I need to memorize more scriptures so I have the weapons to combat this sinful thinking.

Prayer: Dear Lord strengthen my heart and mind that it may be focused on your will and that I will be obedient to you this day.

Suffering Produces Perseverance

Scripture: Romans 5:3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance.

Observation: In my case suffering produces self-pity. Although God has proven again and again, He watches over me, when trouble comes, I’ll turn inward and ask why me. I know with faith in God suffering does produce perseverance and I need to turn to God in those times. There is nothing on this earth that can truly hurt me, even death is only the beginning of my eternal life with God.

Application: When suffering comes turn to God and ask him what he wants me to learn and do. There is a reason for everything that happens instead of asking myself why me, I need to be asking God what do you want me to do.

Prayer: Dear God may my eyes, mind and heart be open to you at all times.

Faith Credited as Righteousness

Scripture: Romans 4:5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

Observation: I read over and over in the bible to trust God. I even made several scripture cards that reference trust in God. Why is it so hard for me? God has shown is faithfulness over and over again in my life. He put Proverbs 3:5, 6 in my life to only trust him and he is so trustworthy. Yet each day I worry about things I have no control over.

Application: Today every time I worry about something or even think about something I shouldn’t be thinking of, I will recite Proverbs 3:5, 6. I will continue to strengthen my faith in love and trust in God.

Prayer: My God may my faith in you count as righteousness in your eyes.

Righteousness from Faith

Scripture: Romans 3:22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference.

Observation: I continue to do good through my own power and try to make myself right in God’s eyes. Each day I try not to commit a sin, but sooner or later I have thoughts that are wrong or say something or do something that dishonors God. My righteousness comes only from my belief of my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He only makes me right before the Father.

Application: I need to start living my life in thankfulness of Jesus. Trying harder each day to be more like my Lord. I know that does not make me righteous, but I owe it to my God to be my best.

Prayer: Dear God guide me to be more like your son who saved this sinner.
