The Lord Stands Near

Scripture: Acts 23:11 The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”

Observation: The Lord stood near and touched my heart the day I was saved. I’m constantly going through situations alone, but I don’t have to, the Lord is standing next to me. My mind is constantly going and I don’t listen. I wonder what my Lord might be saying to me? He is probably saying the same thing as he said to Paul, take courage. I’m such a coward by the way I live my life I should be testifying about Jesus to the people He surrounds me with each day.

Application: I need to live my life with Jesus standing nearby. Knowing He can see my actions and hear my words. I know I would live my life differently.

Prayer: My Lord stand near me always and speak the words you desire me to hear. I will obey.

God Will Send

Scripture: Acts 22:21 Then the Lord said to me, “Go I will send you far away to the Gentiles.”

Observation: I wonder why I don’t hear God? Is it because I just don’t listen or I talk too much. I know God has a purpose for me, but is He waiting to tell me or is he trying to talk to me now. I wonder how Paul heard the word of God? Was it as if a person talking to another or was it very quiet and hard to make out?

Application: Knowing God wants to speak to me I need to make more time to meditate and listen to God. My mind seems to be constantly going non-stop, preventing me to hear him.

Prayer: My Lord quiet this servant so that I may hear you. Speak to me and direct this servant’s path towards you.

Being Bound for Christ

Scripture: Acts 21:13 Then Paul answered, ”Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Observation: I wonder how ready I am at times. Paul was ready to die for the name of Jesus and sometimes I’m not even ready to face embarrassment. I would like to have Paul’s conviction and faith. My focus is too much on this world and not enough on the mission God has given me.

Application: I need to get myself ready to die for the name of my Lord, Jesus. To face ridicule, embarrassment and anything else so that I proclaim his name. I need to lay down the luxuries of this life to build up my treasures in heaven.

Prayer: My God give me Paul’s conviction and faith and use me this day to please and honor you.

Shepherds of the Church

Scripture: Acts 20:28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherd of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

Observation: Most of the time I’m not a good member of my church. I criticize or find an excuse not to serve when I should. I should be protecting and supporting my church which was bought by the blood of Jesus. I should help to make it better and to bring others to it to hear the Word of God.

Application: To make an effort to tell others about the church and to invite them. To stop my gossiping of the church to others in the church to truly be a member, part of the body, of Christ.

Prayer: Dear God draw me closer to you by drawing me closer to my church family. Make me an active part of the body.

Telling of the Holy Spirit

Scripture: Acts 19:2 And asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Observation: Many people who might call themselves Christians may never have received the Holy Spirit. As the scripture says they most likely don’t know there is a Holy Spirit. We as Christians who have received the Holy Spirit, like Paul, need to let others know about receiving the Holy Spirit.

Application: Need to tell others what the Holy Spirit does in my life. How He guides me each day, helps me choose the right words to say, comforts me and guides me in my prayers. That I’m the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Dear Lord fill me with the Holy Spirit and Holy Spirit guide me today.

Keep on Speaking

Scripture: Acts 18:9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, “Do not be afraid, keep on speaking, do not be silent.

Observation: Keep on speaking, why is it so hard sometimes even to say “God Bless” instead of good bye. To show others I am a Christian instead of trying to blend in. His Word says do not be afraid. What am I afraid of? Do not be silent, I need to speak out if I don’t I disobey God’s Word.

Application: I need not to be afraid and to be bold when it comes to expressing my faith. I need to overcome possible embarrassment or rejections from others opposed to disappointing my God. To know every time, I speak out I’m praising God and being obedient.

Prayer: My Lord give me strength to speak out and not be silent but proclaim my love for you and others.

Reaching Out to God

Scripture: Acts 17:27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

Observation: God surrounds us with his glory and love. So, we can look and see the magnificence around us and wonder how could this be. Then search out and find the God, creator of all things. All we need to do is reach out and there He is always available to his creation and treating us as his children.

Application: I need to live my life with God by my side each day, knowing He sees and hears me. My actions need to be honoring to him and live in a way knowing God is in control.

Prayer: My Lord, I’m reaching out. Please take my hand and lead me through this day.
