A Spirit of Power

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1: [7] For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

Observation: I don’t know why I chose to live a life of timidity. My thoughts are preoccupied of things that might happen. I seem to look how things may go wrong instead of believing I’m in God’s will. This is one of Satan’s greatest weapon against me.

Application: I need to live the life God intends for me with the spirit of power, love and self-discipline He gave me. Knowing when I’m in God’s will He will guide me and I need not be afraid. Remind myself that over and over in his word it says, do not be afraid.

Prayer: My Lord give me peace and guide me this day by your spirit to accomplish the things you desire.

Godliness with Contentment

Scripture: 1 Timothy 6: 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Observation: I realize how often I’m not content with what I have. I want a home, I look at new cars, the newest gadgets. Yet I seem content with what I give to God. I would be a much better man if I was content with what I have and not content with what I give God always striving to do better.

Application: I need to realize all I have comes from God and then thank Him for it. I’m one of the richest people on earth with all my needs taken care of, good health, the best wife and eternal life with my Lord and Savior.

Prayer: My God I’m so grateful for all you’ve given me and I ask for a more content heart, not to search for things I want, but wanting to give you more.

Providing for Our Relatives

Scripture: 1 Timothy 5: [8] If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Observation: We have a responsibility to look after our relatives and to help with their needs. When I was given my divorce papers God put it on my heart to give my ex-wife everything we had, which I did. This scripture was what God gave me at that time. I feel the blessing I received was out of obedience of taking care of her as God directed.

Application: I need to be more aware of my family’s needs. To help out wherever I can and to be there for them. Whether financial or support God commands me in this.

Prayer: My Lord may I not be selfish, but generous with my possessions and time to give to my family without hesitation

Everything God Makes

Scripture: 1 Timothy 4: [4] For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

Observation: I consider what God has made and what man has made out of it. Food that God made is good for us, but the chemicals man as made as additives, flavors, preservatives, have caused harm. Think of everything God as made from taking care of our needs, wants, desires and enjoyment. How can we help but thank Him.

Application: Realize as I go throughout each day and notice what God has done. Every time I see something, thank him right then and there.

Prayer: My Lord you have created all things and I thank you for your love and provision.

Managing Our Family

Scripture: 1 Timothy 3: [5] (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)

Observation: That indicates where a man should spend his time. First with God in prayer and devotion. Next with family above ministry. I think people believe they are holier when they spend a lot of time at church instead at home. It’s probably because it’s easier doing ministry than raising a family God’s way.

Application: Even though my children are grown and out on their own I need to keep that contact, especially with my son. I need to make amends with him and ask for forgiveness for not being there when he needed me.

Prayer: My God make me a better husband, father and grandfather so that I will glorify you.

Prayers for Everyone

Scripture: 1 Timothy 2: I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone–

Observation: Prayers and thanksgiving for everyone. My prayers are very limited and the people I don’t care for I almost invoke a curse. That is not God’s way. He wants everyone to be saved and He asks me to pray for others. How can I say no to the God who loves and saved me.

Application: Examine my prayers and ask who am I leaving out, the homeless person I passed, government officials, my boss or someone that aggravates me. Check my list when I see someone that needs prayer, pray right then for them.

Prayer: My Lord guide me with the Holy Sprit to pray for those you put in my path and those in authority over me.

The Worst Sinner

Scripture: 1 Timothy 1: 15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst.

Observation: I think of my past, all the sins I committed and how easily it was for me to sin. I can have looked at myself as the worst of sinners. If I was God I would have skipped right over me and let me burn in hell for all eternity, I deserved it. Yet He showed me mercy and saved me.

Application: Each day I need to realize what God as done for me, how He saved this sinner so I can live a life honoring Him. I need to share my testimony with others and show God I love Him.

Prayer: My Lord you have reached out and saved this sinner. Show me how to glorify you this day.
