God’s Word

Scripture Proverbs 6:22 When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you.

Observation: This is a description of God’s word when we roam it will lead, it comforts us during our sleep and when we are awake God’s commands will speak to us. First, we need to know His word and meditate on it so it is with us always and everywhere. God will keep His promises, but we need to know what they are.

Application: Never stop reading the Bible. Every day start my morning in God’s words memorizing scripture and His promises for my life. Understand what I am to do so I may receive God’s promises in my life.

Prayer: My Lord speak to me through your word and help me understand what you are telling me. Guide me each day and may I always be obedient to your commands.

God Knows All

Scripture Proverbs 5:21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, And He ponders all his paths.

Observation: Sometimes we think that we are getting away with something, as if God wasn’t paying attention. He is all knowing and there is nothing we can do in secret, but it may appear we got away with something. We will be judged either here or before His throne and if we don’t repent from the evil, we do we will pay the price no matter how small or large the sin may be in our eyes it is still sin in His.

Application: I need to realize before I do anything what will please God and what will displease Him. My life is to be lived for his glory and not for me. If, however I fall into temptation and I do something that I know is dishonoring to Him I must fall to my knees immediately and beg for forgiveness. Think before I do or better yet pray before I do.

Prayer: My Lord I’m a sinner and at times the worst. Help guide me as your word promises me to do what is pleasing in your sight and help me be a righteous man before you and others. I love you Lord and my desire is to do so much better than I do.

Retaining Words in my Heart

Scripture Proverbs 4:4 He also taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live.

Observation: It’s not just knowing the words but keeping them in your heart. Meaning you know them and understand what they mean. Sometimes it is a burden to try to understand something with just head knowledge, but to know them in your heart will allow you never to forget them. When we know and understand God’s word we will be able to keep His commands with pleasure and have eternal life with our Lord.

Application: When I read, I need to meditate on God’s word so they are not just knowledge but second nature to me. Once I understand what God is telling me I can take it to heart and be obedient without questioning what God is calling me to do.

Prayer: My Lord help me retain your Word in my heart. Don’t allow my mind to wander when I read, but help me stay focused on what you are commanding me to do. My desire is to please you and I know I can only do that when I’m following your commands for my life. I know You love me and want the best for me help me stay on the path you have chosen for me.

My Saving Scripture

Scripture Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Observation: This was my saving scripture. I was lost in Kentucky and couldn’t figure out why God would call me here. I slipped back into depression and felt I had no place to go. Then God put this verse in my heart and not only in my heart but everywhere, from my devotions, restaurant chalk boards, email addresses, license plate, it seemed no matter where I went there it was, reminding me that God was the one in control

Application: This is my life verse and I need to live my life by it. I need to trust God completely, and not to depend on my thinking, in everything see Him before me and allow my Lord to direct me each day.

Prayer: My Lord, I trust you, remind me of what your desires are for your servant and command me to do them. I’m not here for me You created me for you. Please take control.

Receiving God’s Word

Scripture Proverbs 2:1 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you,

Observation: I read God’s word every day, but most of the time I don’t receive it. I know what His word is telling me to do, but rarely do I do it. Without receiving God’s word, I can’t treasure what He is commanding me to do. God’s words are commands and not helpful suggestions, He wants obedience from us and the only way we can obtain that obedience is by knowing what He desires of us.

Application: Do more than just read my Bible each day, but meditate and understand what it is saying to me. Allow God to speak to my heart and direct my paths. Start treasuring my Lord’s command, He cares for me and wants me to be successful in following Him and earning a place in Heaven with my obedience.

Prayer: My Lord open my mind to understanding and direct me in all that you call me to do. My desire is to please you, please guide me this day to glorify you. I love you Lord may I show it today.

A Wise Man Will Learn

Scripture Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,

Observation: A wise man will learn and not necessarily teach. I don’t listen very well if someone is speaking to me, I’m already planning what I’m going to say. I think I know so much when in reality I know very little, because I’m not willing to stop and listen to others.

Application: I need to be humble and stop talking and really listen and learn. If I can just keep my mouth shut and my ears opened and hear what is being said, then discern it and learn from it. There is so much more I need to know to be a good Christian and God has surrounded me with people that can teach me what I need to know.

Prayer: My Lord humble your servant before you. Close my mouth and open my ears to hear. Speak to me Lord and teach me the things you desire me to know. I’m you creation, your servant, your child and your student, may I learn from you.

Let Everything Praise Him

Scripture Psalms 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!

Observation: God has created everything and as our Creator He deserves to be praised. If we are not praising Him, it is only because we are not thinking of Him and if we are not thinking of Him the enemy is distracting us. Everything around us is praising His name if we would only stop and observe is majesty and join along.

Application: I need to take my own advice and take the time to stop and walk away from my distractions just to look around and see Him, then stop and praise His Holy Name. He is always there and never leaves us or forsakes us, so several times a day I need to take a moment and praise and thank Him for who He is and how He has blessed me.

Prayer: Dear Lord you are worthy of all of my praise, love worship and time. May I start today doing better giving you what you deserve from me, may I not be able to look around me without seeing you in my surroundings. I love you Lord draw me closer to You.
