Zeal for the Lord

Scripture 2 Kings 10:16 Then he said, “Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD.” So they had him ride in his chariot.

Observation: Do I have zeal for the Lord and if I do is it obvious to others. I have my moments, like when I’m doing the Heaven study or doing a class on depression that my zeal for the Lord is great and I feel others can feel my zeal and excitement for my Lord. However my everyday life is not as obvious as my zeal goes to lukewarm at times and when people notice how I act at times they may not think I even know the Lord. God has done so many wonderful things in my life and when I think of them I’m full of gratitude and want to share that feeling with others. The difference is that I’m not focused on the goodness of God all the time and I should be.

Application: I need to have that zeal all of the time no matter where I am. I need to have compassion for others and love them as my Lord loves me or at least the best that I can do. I need God in my heart at all times thinking of His grace and mercy that He has shown me my whole life and to tell others about what He has done for me.

Prayer: Dear Lord I’m crazy for you, may you always be the first and last thing on my heart during each day.. Oh Holy Spirit fill me with zeal for the Lord and that I will obey every command and show you my love for you. I do love you, you know that, draw me closer to you.

Says the Lord

Scripture 2 Kings 9:26 ‘Surely I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,’ says the LORD, ‘and I will repay you in this plot,’ says the LORD. Now therefore, take and throw him on the plot of ground, according to the word of the LORD.”

Observation: When the Lord says something you can bet it will come true. The Lord knows all things and when He speaks to us we need to adhere to what He says. The Bible is the word of God and He has given us instruction on what we are to be doing and we need to be doing it. In our heart we know what God desires of us even though we may make excuses why we shouldn’t be doing something. When God speaks He does it for a reason and we need to be obedient and listen.

Application: I need to be more aware of what God is saying to me and then do whatever He asks of me. I’m my Lord’s servant and a servant obeys commands and I want to be a good servant. I need to stay in prayer and in God’s word so I always know what God desires of me.

Prayer: My Lord speak to your servant and command me in what you want of me. Help me be obedient to you and that I will hear every word you say to me.

God Keeps His Promises

Scripture 2 Kings 8:19 Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah, for the sake of his servant David, as He promised him to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.

Observation: God’s a much better promise keeper then me. All of Judah is sinning and idol worshipping, but because He promised David he won’t destroy Judah. In the Bible there are hundreds of promises from God and each one He keeps. However each promise has a condition. God asks us to do something and if we do he will keep his promise. Like I said God is a better promise keeper then we are and most of the time we don’t meet our end of the promise and we wonder why God doesn’t bless us.

Application: I need to be a better promise keeper. To God and to the people that God surrounds me with. I need to be a man of my word that my yes means yes and my no means no. I need to make sure I’m keeping my end of a promise if I pray to God for him to keep his. I need to trust in God completely and serve him wholeheartedly.

Prayer: My Lord I’m your servant and I want to keep every promise I make. I want to draw close to you and that others would see that I’m a sincere and honest man and that my life points to you. Help me Lord keep every promise I make to you and to others.

Let’s Not Remain Silent of Good News

Scripture 2 Kings 7:9 Then they said to one another, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. If we wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us. Now therefore, come, let us go and tell the king’s household.”

Observation: The true good news that Jesus has saved us from our sins and all we have to do is receive it with our hearts has been kept silent by us for too long. How many people do we meet in a day but keep quiet about the good news of Jesus? I know I am guilty and I realize it is not proper in some situations, but what does proper compare to someone going to hell because we kept our mouths shut? We are content to keep the good news to ourselves, because we know we are going to be with the Lord, but a time will come when we have to account to our Lord why we didn’t share His love with others.

Application: I can bring up the Lord with the people in church or if someone else asks me. I can even stand before many people in church and proclaim His love to those who know Him, but can I tell those in this world who are starving for His grace where to eat, instead of hording His mercy and grace to myself. I need to be bold with the faith God has placed in my heart and go out on a limb to tell others about the Salvation that only comes from my Lord. That is why I’m still here to proclaim the good news of Jesus.

Prayer: My Lord give me the courage to speak boldly in your name to others. Expand my territory to touch the lives of those you but in my path. Show me how to please you and help fill the kingdom with your children and be the good witness you call me to be.

Open My Eyes Oh Lord

Scripture 2 Kings 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Observation: That is my prayer to my Lord that He would open my eyes so that I can see. I want to see how my Lord wants to use me, what I should do, the love He has for his children and to see others through my Lord’s eyes. I pray that my eyes would be opened to how to do the Heaven study so that it glorifies my God. My eyes are closed most of the day as I treat people with sarcasms and treat them rudely, because I want people to notice me. I need my eyes opened so I can do for them as my Lord wants done.

Application: I always feel sorry for treating someone poorly or doing things because I want to do them without regard to others feelings. I need to see it first so that I don’t do it at all. I need to have my eyes opened to what God is surrounding me with and see what I should be doing to glorify God and bless others.

Prayer: My Lord forgive me for the way I treated several people today that you put in my path. Give me a softer heart and take this pride and arrogance from my spirit and humble me before you. I love you and desire to do what is pleasing in your sight my Lord.

Only to the Lord

Scripture 2 Kings 5:17 So Naaman said, “Then, if not, please let your servant be given two mule-loads of earth; for your servant will no longer offer either burnt offering or sacrifice to other gods, but to the LORD.

Observation: When people’s eyes are open to the majesty of the Lord they can see that only He is God and deserves all of our praise. We have so many gods in our lives, money, work, people, possession and so on, but there is only one that deserves our undivided worship and that is our Lord. Jesus came into my life and proved to me that He is my Lord and I’m not to have any other God or thing above Him. My Lord and my God deserves all that I am all of the time.

Application: Tonight I have an opportunity to share about Heaven with my church family and to show our God is the only thing in our lives worthy of worship. I need to show others about our magnificent Lord and that He needs to be on the throne of our lives. I need to set that example in my life, that others may see my Lord through the way I live my life. God deserves all that I have and I need to give that to Him.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for showing me your love, grace, mercy and power. Thank you for always being there for me and that your love is never ending. Be with me tonight and speak through your servant and show all that attend that you are the only thing in our life worthy of worship.

Man of God

Scripture 2 Kings 4:27 Now when she came to the man of God at the hill, she caught him by the feet, but Gehazi came near to push her away. But the man of God said, “Let her alone; for her soul is in deep distress, and the LORD has hidden it from me, and has not told me.”

Observation: As I read 2 Kings the Term man of God is used to describe Elisha more than using his name. Even as the writer is writing about Him, Elisha is called the man of God. What a great title, if I could only live a life that close to God that others would see me has a man of God. To get that title however others must be able to see God through you and I know that’s not what I project. Even today someone asked me for cereal past the serving time at work and I refused and I gave another teacher a hard time for touching a plate, only because I wanted things my way and that is not what a man of God would do. God comes first, then others and myself last and that is not the order in which I need to live.

Application: I need to put God first in everything I do and say. When I do something that would honor God that He will get the credit for it. The Heaven study I’m doing must be presented to others as God’s gift to them and not mine. I’m a servant and I need to show others that God reigns in my life by the way I treat them. My life needs to represent God and not me. Before I say or do anything I need to consider what God wants me to do in each situation.

Prayer: My Lord I want to be seen as your servant. Humble me before you and give me the strength to live a life that is worthy of you. May others see your love in my life and when they see me may they think of you. Guide me Lord and show me how to be a Man of you.
