We Also Have Duties

Scripture Numbers 3: [7] They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community at the Tent of Meeting by doing the work of the tabernacle.

Observation: In this scripture the Lord is commanding the Levites to do work for Aaron in the sanctuary. Our Lord also commands us to do work in our church, community and wherever we go we have duties to perform. In the church we are to use our gifts and talents to be part of the body to help make the church complete for God. We are to reach out to our community and people God puts in our path to spread the gospel. We are not to be spectators but participants in this world.

Application: I need to get off my butt and get going for my Master. He has blessed me with gifts to be used for His glory. He put me in a church to be part of it and not just to attend. I’m here for a reason and purpose and I need to be moving to accomplish them. I need to find more opportunities to use the testimony God has given me to touch others and to use the gift of organization to help create ways that will reach others with the gospel.

Prayer: Dear Lord and Master I know I’m not here by chance but you placed me here at this time to serve you. Lord open doors and my eyes to what you desire of me and get me busy running this race. I want the prize, pleasing you and when I come home I want you to be pleased.

Doing Everything the Lord Says

Scripture Numbers 2:34 So the Israelites did everything the LORD commanded Moses; that is the way they encamped under their standards, and that is the way they set out, each with his clan and family.

Observation: I want to do everything the Lord commands me but I don’t. I get involved in my own agenda and forget about God’s. I can only imagine if I did everything the Lord commands me how wonderful my life would be knowing that I was always in God’s will. It’s not like I don’t know what He wants of me I just do things that I would either rather do or that I’m too lazy to honor God by doing what He wants me to do. God won’t force me to follow Him, but He can’t bless me either when I don’t obey Him.

Application: I’m only here because God commands me to be here. I have no purpose other than God’s and this life would be a waste if I don’t do what He has created me for. I need to get up each morning with a desire to be obedient and to follow each of His commands so that I may reach my goal of fulfilling my Lord’s purpose for this life.

Prayer: Dear Lord I am your servant, your slave and creation. Take me by the hand and have me do the things that you desire. Thank you for making your commands visible in my life. Give me the strength and perseverance to follow through each day.

Each Is Set Apart

Scripture Numbers 1: [53] The Levites, however, are to set up their tents around the tabernacle of the Testimony so that wrath will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the Testimony.”

Observation: God has created us special to perform duties that He will assign. He made sure we had the gifts, talents and desire to fulfill our assignments. As the parable of the talents shows that God has given us these gifts to be multiplied back to Him as we use them wisely. I believe it isn’t only here on this earth that we will be using them I believe God plans on using them for all eternity and based on how we use them here will help determine how God plans on using us when we get home.

Application: Lately I haven’t been doing much for the glory of God. Teri and I stopped going to our home fellowship, we have no plans for the CIA and I haven’t had any response to the depression ministry. The talents God has given me lately have been buried in the ground and I need to dig them up and put them to good or God use. He truly has blessed me with a unique testimony and gifts that can bless others when used with a pure heart.

Prayer: My Lord forgive your lazy servant and get me going again. Open doors for me or point me to the ones you want me to knock down. I want so desperately to hear the words well done good and faithful servant. Please help me use all that you have given me to your glory. I’m yours, use me in any way you desire.

Faithful with Our Tithe

Scripture Leviticus 27:30 ” `A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.

Observation: God owns everything and it is only on loan to us. God asks only a tenth back as an offering and for most of us that is very difficult to do. I’ve heard people that are financially strapped that they cannot afford to give God the tithe owed to Him and that will be their mistake. Our God doesn’t need anything from us, only our obedience. He knows are sinful ways and knows that it is difficult for us to give up anything, but He is ready to bless us when we are obedient to Him. He is owed a tithe on everything and that includes our most precious gift, time and I know from my past experiences God is faithful to His word and boy can He bless.

Application: I need to always be faithful to give back what God commands me to and more. It shouldn’t just stop with my tithe, but I need to be more generous with all the Lord has given me and especially my time.

Prayer: My Lord soften my heart and give me a generous spirit. Show me that this all belongs to you and that there is nothing that belongs to me so that I may give more freely. Show me how to bless others with what you have blessed me with.

If We Would Just Obey

Scripture Leviticus 26:6 ” `I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove savage beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.

Observation: I think how this country was founded, under God’s principles and love. Here is a nation only 250 years old and we were the mightiest in the world, because God allowed it to be. Our Constitution was founded under biblical principles and scriptures and we prospered more than any other country in the world. God kept His promise and blessed us beyond measure, but now we have turned our backs and we are paying the price of our disobedience. We have become a sinful, sexually immoral, and fowl place full of greed and hate.

Application: I need to look for ways to tell others, especially our children God’s place in this country and in our hearts. The world keeps trying to throw God out and we need to keep Him close. I need to pray and do what I can to keep God a part of the world that surrounds me and ask Him to come back. Explain His commands and obey them that we may draw nearer to Him.

Prayer: My Lord I’m asking for forgiveness yet we don’t deserve any. This country has not only been disobedient, but we have tried to throw you out of this place you blessed us with. Show me what part I can play in returning your people back to you and may I lead by example. I love you Lord show me what to do.

Don’t Take Advantage of Others

Scripture Leviticus 25: [17] Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the LORD your God.

Observation: This world is made up of people taking advantage of other people. There are so many scams to take money from others. Even in the church I see people taking advantage of others. We have become such a sinful generation of people and we don’t only not fear God we ignore Him completely. Our society is designed to put God on the shelf and get the most you can from this world no matter what it takes.

Application: I need to be extra careful on how I deal with others so that I don’t fit into this world. I need to be kind and generous and stand out from the norm of the world. I need to be different in a good way so that others may see the love of God in me and not just another person bent on taking advantage of them. I can’t fit the world’s mold, but be transformed into the image of Christ.

Prayer: My Lord help me not fit in this world, but be a light to direct others to you. I don’t know how you stand looking at this sinful world without ending it, but I know you don’t want none to perish. May I only be focused on what you desire of me and that I will complete the race you have put me in, in glory and honor to your name.

An Eye for an Eye

Scripture Leviticus 24: [20] fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As he has injured the other, so he is to be injured.

Observation: It’s seems only right that people should get the same punishment as they inflicted on someone else and I feel it is something that God has put on our heart. Today the news is filled with so many horrid things that people do to others. Just recently on the news a man kidnapped 3 girls and held them in captivity for more than 10 years raping and abusing them. Death does not even sound just because of the torture these girls endured for so long. It is not that I want revenge, since I don’t know any of these people on the news, but it seems only right and because we don’t give these offenses the proper punishment they continue to multiply.

Application: I don’t feel my feeling are unjust for these crimes or that I’m an extremist, but that God’s heart is speaking to me. There is so much hatred in this world because of the way we treat each others. I need to act as if I was going to do anything evil to anyone else that that evil would be done to me. Do onto others as if you want to be done to you. I need to treat others in that manner.

Prayer: My Lord it must be so hard for you to look at this fallen world and see all the evil that is in it. Help us be better people for you and give out the justice that would honor you. We are evil people and we need your guidance on how to live a godly life in your name. Place on my heart what you would have me do. Your servant.
