Daily Devotional

Scripture 1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

Observation: Each night as I go to bed, I pray that this will be the night I hear the beautiful sound of the trumpet and my Lord calls us home. Obviously, it wasn’t last night so I go about my business as if the Lord could come back at any moment. God still gives us the opportunity to be with Him every day in spirit and my goal is to hear His voice guide me today.

Application: I need to always be prepared for my Master. He has given me a job and I need to be focused on fulfilling my purpose in this life. To be aware of my surroundings and the people my Lord puts in my life and not miss an opportunity He gives me to share my testimony of how God saved me from my sins.

Prayer Good Morning Lord thank you for getting my up today and I ask you to guide me through this day to do your will. Put those you chose to be in my path today and that I would be focused on doing what you have called me to do.

Scripture 1 Thessalonians 3:4 For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we would suffer tribulation, just as it happened, and you know.

Observation: Jesus told us ahead of time that we will have trials and tribulation and for us not to expect them is like calling Jesus a liar. Trials and tribulations are not necessarily a bad thing if we trust in God and seek His face during such times that it will strengthen us and make us more dependent on our heavenly Father. These are the times we grow closer to God, which should be our goal to grow closer and increase in our knowledge of our Lord.

Application: I take each day at a time and only worry about the things that I can change, which isn’t much. No matter what happens today God knows about it and I need to look at these moments and say, “What do you want me to learn Lord.” When I lost my job, I was able to say that and ask God what would you like me to do with this time You have given me and He answered and guided me on my journey each day to walk and talk to His children. Something that might have been meant for evil God turned for good.

Prayer My Lord I know that You are always with me and love me the way I am, but love me too much to keep me this way. Use me today and no matter what might happens draw me nearer to You.

Scripture 1 Thessalonians 2:4 But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.

Observation: When I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior, He entrusted me to further the kingdom. I was to use the gifts, abilities and opportunities He gives me to do His will. At times my motives were not true and instead of doing things for God’s glory I use them to glorify me. God is always testing my heart and drawing me closer to Him and even though I fail at times He still has me on the path that He created just for me.

Application: I need to be more aware of why I do things and make sure they are for the glory of God. As I walk along, I need to be in constant contact with the Holy Spirit and make sure I’m doing what honors God. Make sure I pass the test as God sees my heart and motives.

Prayer Dear God I don’t know why you saved this sinner, but please draw me nearer to You and guide me on my journey. May something happen today that honors You and may I grow a little closer to You.

Scripture 1 Thessalonians 1:10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Observation: I can’t wait to see Jesus and go home. However, the key word here is wait and that it is in His timing and not mine. The world has become a terrible place with all the evil surrounding us and we deserve God’s wrath. Our job as Christians is to help others see Jesus as our Savior and that He rose from the dead to bring us home to Him.

Application: I need to be about my Father’s business and shine a light wherever I go. To be the example God has called me to be and to be faithful on waiting for my Lord and to trust in God’s timing and wait.

Prayer My Lord help give me the strength and faith I need to wait on You. Keep me busy and doing what You have called me to do and that I will be doing your will when You return.

Scripture Colossians 4:2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;

Observation: The more I pray with others as I walk each morning the more important prayer becomes to me. I can feel the Holy Spirit guiding me and putting people in my path. I’m learning how important prayer is to God, because it shows faith and trust in our Father. I need to always make prayer a priority in my life and be thankful God has given me this opportunity to talk with Him each day.

Application: As I pray, I grow closer to my heavenly Father and I’m able to understand what He desires of me. I should never take this for granted and always be thankful that I may come before Him at any time. Be especially grateful as He shows me answered prayer and thank Him for His love.

Prayer Dear Father thank you for allowing me to speak to You. Continue to increase my knowledge of You and your desires for this life You have blessed me with. I always look forward to our walks and I ask You to continue to speak to your servant. I love you, Lord.

Scripture Colossians 3:10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

Observation: I remember when I put on the new man when I received Christ as my Lord and Savior. It didn’t seem to fit at first since it was different from what I was used to. As I walked in it daily it was fitting better. Now after wearing it for over twenty years I don’t remember what the old man felt like, which is great.

Application: Each day I change a little with the knowledge God has given me. I wish I could say each day was a positive experience, but my knowledge increases even with the negative things that I experience. At the end of each day, I go to my Father and seek wisdom and guidance as He continues to tailor and makes adjustments to me.

Prayer My Lord thank you for not giving up on me. I thank you for this new man that you have been working on for so long. Help me be obedient as You continue to guide me on this journey and live in anticipation to another new man I will become when I get home.

Scripture Colossians 2:10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

Observation: Most of my life I’ve felt inadequate and felt I didn’t belong and out of place. When Jesus came into my life, I was different and the longer I walk with Him the more complete I feel. I know I don’t belong in this world, but I do belong to Him. I have everything I need to fulfill the purpose He has created me for and I have the Holy Spirit to guide me each day. All I need now is to be obedient to what He has called me to.

Application: God as put on my heart that I live only a day at a time. My focus is to do my Lord’s will and to listen to His commands. The people I will meet today are the ones that Have been put in my path. I have all I need today to make the difference God has called me to make and I’m ready to live this day for my Lord.

Prayer Good Morning Father. Thank you for preparing me for this day and giving me all I need. Help me stay focused on what the Holy Spirit is telling me and that I will be obedient to each command throughout the day. Look forward to spending this day with You.
