The One Who was Pierced

Scripture Zechariah 12:10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

Observation: There are over 300 prophesies about Jesus and this is one of them. When the soldier had to determine of Jesus was dead on the cross, He was pierced with a spear. He died for all of us that would believe in Him and suffered more than anyone could imagine. God requires faith to believe but He also leaves us so much evidence that Jesus is the Son of God.

Application: I need to spread that gospel that Jesus is the son of God and only through Him will we receive salvation. Tell others about an unbelievable love that saved each one of us. Fulfill my commission to spread the gospel of my Lord.

Prayer My Lord thank you for a love that I can’t possibly understand the depth, but saved a sinner like me. Use me as You desire to fulfill the purpose You have created me for. I love you so much can’t wait to tell You that in person.

The Worthless Shepherd

Scripture Zechariah 11:17 “Woe to the worthless shepherd,
Who leaves the flock!
A sword shall be against his arm
And against his right eye;
His arm shall completely wither,
And his right eye shall be totally blinded.”

Observation: We have plenty of worthless shepherds as leaders today. They take bribes and hurt the people they are supposed to be helping. The day will come when they will reap what they have sowed.

Application: I need to be focused on God and His calling on my life and not worry about things that I can’t change. God has given me a purpose and my duty is to fulfill that purpose to the best of my ability and trust God to complete it as He desires.

Prayer My Lord I’m your bond servant and will do whatever You call me to do. Open my eyes to You and that I will continue to stay in your word and pray for those You put in my path.

Being Strengthened in the Lord

Scripture Zechariah 10:12 “So I will strengthen them in the LORD,
And they shall walk up and down in His name,”
Says the LORD.

Observation: God will strengthen us if we draw close to Him. God will fight the battle if we allow Him to do so. We try to fight with our own strength, but never succeed. God will strengthen us so that we can do what He calls us to do and do it in His name to glorify Him.

Application: This fight is not about me, but what I do for my God. He has given me the gifts and talents I need to be successful in this quest and also the strength to accomplish His will. I need to stay close by reading His word and doing whatever he calls me to do.

Prayer My Lord I’m yours help me stay the course and fulfill the purpose You have created me for. Please Lord give me the strength to do all that you require of me, because I’m weak without You, but can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Our King is Coming

Scripture Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9

Observation: When Jesus came the first time proclaiming His kingdom He came humbly on a donkey. When He comes again, He will be coming as a warrior so there will be no doubt that He is King. Time is short before He arrives again and we need to be ready to receive our King.

Application: I need to run this race with more determination fulfilling the purpose that God created me for. I need to do whatever I can to make way for the King and to tell others about Him. I need to be focused on doing His will in my life.

Prayer Lord give me knowledge and wisdom to do what you call me to do and give me strength to complete the task You sent before me. May I do everything with love and respect to my King.

What God Hates

Scripture Zechariah 8:17 Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor;
And do not love a false oath.
For all these are things that I hate,’
Says the LORD.”

Observation: I make so many judgements and at times my heart is full of hate. I feel I’m getting better loving others, but I’m not even close to what I should be. I need to remember God hates when I think evil of someone else and hate is a strong word. God deserves my best and I need to do what pleases Him.

Application: I need to catch myself before I make any type of judgements about others. I need to train myself to see someone else as God does with love and acceptance. I’m here only because of God’s grace and I need to extend that grace to others.

Prayer My Lord help me be what You want me to be. Soften my heart and open my eyes to the way you see others. God help me please You today.

Are We Doing Our Good Deeds for God?

Scripture Zechariah 7:5 “Say to all the people of the land, and to the priests: ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months during those seventy years, did you really fast for Me—for Me?

Observation: I’ve done several outreaches in the past and I always believed it was for God, but was it? I would do special dinners for the homeless and do outreaches in Mexico. People would praise my efforts, but was God getting the glory? I would start with good intentions, but as I was getting recognized for the success of the mission did, I take credit for it?

Application: Whatever I do for the Lord, which should be everything, God deserves all of the credit. As I walk along the beach praying everyone needs to know that it is God’s idea and not mine. When I pray the Holy Spirit is the zone talking and not me. I only have strength to do this because the Lord gives me the strength. I’m only a vessel God uses, nothing more.

Prayer Dear Lord, I thank you for using your servant. May all the people I meet know that You are my master and that I only do what You command me to do. Guide me again today to fulfill the purpose You have created me for. Your faithful bondservant.

Diligently Obey God

Scripture Zechariah 6:15 Even those from afar shall come and build the temple of the LORD. Then you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. And this shall come to pass if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.”

Observation: We are called to diligently obey the voice of God, which means all of the time and not just when it seems convenient for us. We call on God each day for His blessings, but the condition is that we obey Him all of the time. Christians have been set aside for special work and we won’t know what the job is or how to do it unless we obey every word.

Application: I’m doing better now than I have ever in obeying God’s voice, but still have a long way to go. I can’t pick and choose the times I obey it needs to be always. I need to have fellowship with my Lord so that I may understand my place in His plan.

Prayer Dear Lord thank you for never giving up on me. I know I’m here for a purpose and I pray that You would reveal more of what You are calling your servant to do. My desire is to obey and honor You each day until it’s time to go home.
