One Blessing after Another

Scripture: John 1:16 From the fullness of his grave we have received one blessing after another.

Observation: Most of the time I don’t realize the blessings of God because I get focused on negative thoughts or things of this world. When I do stop and think or pray I realize the blessings I receive they are one after another. I take the blessings for granted maybe because there is so many.

Application: I need to be more aware of the grace of God and the blessing I receive because of it. I need to stop and thank him each time I get blessed.

Prayer: Lord forgive me for taking your grace for granted and give me a thankful heart. You deserve all my praise.

Understanding Scripture

Scripture: Luke 24:45 Then He opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures

Observation: Sometimes I wish Jesus would open up my mind so that I could understand the scriptures better. My mind is so preoccupied with the things of this world I have a hard time focusing on the meaning of God’s Word.

Application: To pray that God will open my mind before I begin my reading to understand what He is trying to tell me. To be more focused in my reading and to give my full attention during that time. To memorize scripture and use them in the course of the day.

Prayer: Dear Lord open my mind that I may receive your Word into my heart and to understand what it is you desire of me.

Father Forgive Them

Scripture: Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

Observation: Jesus had just suffered more than anyone could imagine. Then nailed to the cross and then He asked for the people who put him there to be forgiven. If someone does anything I feel is wrong towards me I can’t seem to let it go. Why is it so hard for me to forgive? I need to be more like my Lord.

Application: I need to remember how much God has forgiven me. No one has ever hurt me more than I have hurt God with my actions and thoughts.

Prayer: My God give me the heart of your Son so that I may be able to forgive anything anyone can do to me.

Denying God

Scripture: Luke 22:34 Jesus answered, “I tell you Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

Observation: I wonder how many times in a day I deny Jesus. I don’t have to say it, but my actions at times seem like I deny Him. The way I treat others, things that I say and how I think at times.

Application: Realize that everything I do reflects my relationship with Jesus. It shows the world who I belong to. If others can look at me and not see Christ my actions are not honoring.

Prayer: Lord may I never deny you but draw nearer to you.

Giving God All

Scripture: Luke 21:4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.

Observation: I only give out of my wealth. I never extend myself to give beyond my comfort. I feel I’m doing great when I give my tithe yet when additional giving is asked for, I normally let the collection pass. If I was there at that church and Jesus saw me, He would be disappointed in my lack of giving.

Application: To extend myself in my giving to the point where I need to trust God. God has given me everything that I have and He only wants a small portion to help others.

Prayer: My Lord take this selfishness away from me and make me more like your Son. Who is generous in every way.

He Sees Through Us

Scripture: Luke 20:23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them

Observation: God sees through our excuses, lies and flattery. There is nothing we can hide from him. If I say I’m sorry and want to repent and don’t mean it, I’m only fooling myself. If my prayers aren’t sincere God knows it.

Application: Before I speak or act, I must check my heart and motives to make sure they are honest before I pray my heart must be right.

Prayer: My Lord give me a clear mind and honest heart. May I not try to deceive You or others.

Seek and to Save

Scripture: Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.

Observation: Our Lord and Savior’s purpose was to seek and save what was lost. Then that should be my purpose, but how much time do I devout to that? Not much. My time is spent on satisfying myself more than service to help the lost.

Application: I need to purposely seek the lost of this world and to share Jesus’ saving message. To live a life that points to my savior. To assist my church, helping to bring others to him. I need to take the focus off me and put it on the purpose God has given me.

Prayer: My Lord if you can use anything please use me to complete the task you have set before me and glorify your name.
