Children of God

Scripture: [12] Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God–

Observation: I am now I child of God. The creator of all things is my Father and because of the sacrifice of my Lord and Savior I get to spend eternity with him. If I was the child of a millionaire or famous actor or athlete I would boast to everyone I met who I was, but I’m so much more than that I’m a child of God.

Application: I should be bragging about my Dad, telling others how great and wonderful He is. To tell others the secret about being adopted as His and all the blessings attached to belonging to God. To tell others of his love, mercy and grace and to show them the way to eternal life with their Father.

Prayer: Dear Father I love you and thank you so much for your love. Place in me the desires of your heart and show me how to be a good son to you. I belong to you and always have, do with me as you wish. May I glorify you.

An Opened Mind

Scripture: Luke 24: 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

Observation: That is what I should be praying for is an open mind. That God would give me understanding when I read His word and that my mind would not wonder, but be focused on understanding what is written.

Application: Instead of just reading words I should meditate on what I read. Asking God to give me an understanding what is written so I can apply it.

Prayer: Dear Lord open my eyes and heart to your Word. Give me an understanding to what you are saying to me so that I may live a life closer to you. I love you Lord and want to understand what it is you want of me.

Forgive Them

Scripture: Luke 23 [34] Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Observation: The “for they do not what they do,” is definitely me. I don’t think before I act and when I do think it is usually for my own desires and not what God wants from me. Yet he forgives me and blesses me anyway, but it’s time to live a life that glorifies Him and not me.

Application: It’s time I don’t take His forgiveness so lightly but honor him and thank him for his forgiveness. My Lord’s forgiveness came with a steep price, a price I couldn’t pay. I will never be able to repay, but I need to live a life pointing others to my Lord.

Prayer: Dear Lord thank you for paying the price for me and forgiving this sinner. Place in me the Holy Spirit so that I live this life the way you desire and not me.

Be Like the One Who Serves

Scripture: Luke 22:[26] But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.

Observation: To humble myself has been one of the more difficult things I had to do as a Christian, but God has been with me showing me the way. That was the opposite of my old ways and one of the things that brought me into depression. Now God is calling me to serve others and not myself and I’m finding my joy in that.

Application: To continue to find ways to serve God by serving others. Search out opportunities to serve and not just wait until one might come into my path. Be known as a servant among the people who know me.

Prayer: Dear Lord guide me on how to serve others in your name. To lead putting the needs of others above mine. Living a life that will glorify you. I love your Lord show me how to show you.

Be Careful

Scripture: Luke 21:34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.

Observation: Being careful is something I need to practice. I act without thinking things out and worry constantly for no reason. I react before going to God and praying. So much time is wasted because I’m not careful I worry and anticipate what might happen instead of using the time to honor God.

Application: To be careful and trust in God. No matter what is happening around me, God is in control.

Prayer: Dear God settle my heart and talk with me. May my mind be open to be patient and careful with my thoughts and actions so I may do your will and not be so preoccupied with the things of this world.

Give God What Is His

Scripture: Luke 20:25 “Caesar’s,” they replied.
He said to them, “Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

Observation: What’s God’s? Everything that I have and am is God’s, so He deserves everything. I should be giving Him my love, obedience, service and possessions. So if everything is God’s why do I give Him so little?

Application: I need to start giving God what He deserves and that is all of me. He needs to be first in my life and my life should be dedicated to serving Him. I must pray for strength and wisdom to know what to do each day and then do it.

Prayer: Dear Lord everything belongs to you and you deserve the best from me. Guide me today to give you my all and to show me how to please you this day. I love you Lord, help me show you by the way I live this life.
