Receiving the Power

Scripture: Acts 1:8 But you receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be a witness in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Observation: Most of the time I feel powerless. Constantly worrying about things in this world and feeling lost. Yet God has given me power through the Holy Spirit. I have seen and felt the power when I serve and honor God.

Application: I need to be doing more of what God wants me to do to feel the power of the Holy Spirit. To be in God’s will serving others and not worrying if I can do it, but knowing the Holy Spirit will do it through me.

Prayer: My God I need the power of the Holy Spirit today to fulfill the purpose you have created me for.

What About Him?

Scripture: John 21:21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord what about him?”

Observation: How many times I compare myself to others. I wonder why some people have more possessions, have better careers, etc. instead of focusing on what God wants, I focus on what I want. God made each of us different for a reason and purpose and if I keep on focusing on what I want I’ll never fulfill the purpose God has for me.

Application: It’s time I focus on what God wants of me and not what I want from God. God already knows His plan for my life and that’s the plan I want.

Prayer: My Lord you created me for you and not for myself. Guide me and help me fulfill my purpose.

Sent by Jesus

Scripture: John 20:21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

Observation: I always knew that God the Father sent his Son, Jesus, to save the world. I didn’t think about how Jesus also came to send us into the world to save others. What an awesome responsibility we have. Created by God to go out in Jesus’ name to save the world.

Application: I need to realize my purpose in life and that God himself is sending me out on my mission. Realize I’m not here for myself but for others.

Prayer: My God may I fulfill my mission to save others in your name.

It’s Finished

Scripture: John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up the spirit.

Observation: It is finished means the same as Paid in Full. Jesus paid the full price for my sins by suffering on the cross and dying. You would think with that sacrifice I would stop sinning, but I don’t. Even as I’m writing this, I have my doubts and worry and I’m acting like a child while my thoughts run wild in my mind.

Application: I need to remind myself daily what my God gave up for me so that I may be sinless to my Father, not taking it lightly but to try with all my heart, soul and mind to be the best I can be.

Prayer: My Lord, I thank you for your sacrifice and I have been bought by your blood. Direct me now and make me this man you desire.

Denying Jesus

Scripture: John 18:27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

Observation: This verse could have read I Mark denied Him. How many times my thoughts and actions deny that I belong to Jesus? I don’t have to say the words but people see how I act and if my actions aren’t as a Christian then I deny Christ. Just the other day my wife needed my support and because of my attitude I didn’t go with her. I hurt her and that’s the same as denying Christ.

Application: Think before I act and ask am I honoring Christ or denying him with my actions, there is no middle of the road.

Prayer: My Lord you are my savior and I belong to you. Help me this day to honor and not deny you.

Given to Jesus

Scripture: John 17:6 “I have revealed you to these whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your Word.

Observation: God chose me to be given to Jesus. I ignored God most of my life, but He loved me so much He gave me to his son to be saved. How special to be chosen, now I must do my part in honoring God, to understand and to put into practice his Word. So, there is no doubt by people around me that I belong to Jesus.

Application: To take my time and meditate on God’s Word each day. Taking the principles and putting them into action. To pray and stay in close contact with my Lord

Prayer: My Lord I belong to you. Speak to me through the Holy Spirit and guide me each day.

Believe at Last

Scripture: John 16:31 “You believe at last!” Jesus answered.

Observation: I can imagine God looking down at me and finally saying you believe at last! After all God had done in my life it still took over 45 years before I received Him in my life. Yet after all He has done I still fall short in trusting Him totally with my life. I can’t wait until the day He can say you finally trust me.

Application: To truly believe in my Lord and Savior each day and trust him with all He has given me. To have a peace about me knowing my Lord is with me always.

Prayer: Dear Lord faith is believing, increase my faith.
