Bearing Fruit

Scripture: John 15:8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

Observation: To use the gifts and talents God has given me to bear fruit. It glorifies God whenever I serve at church or help someone because I’m showing myself as being one of Jesus” disciples.

Application: To be a true disciple is to follow Jesus each day. I need to bear fruit for God to glorify His name. I need to actively look at ways each day to bear fruit for my Lord.

Prayer: Dear Lord open my eyes to ways to glorify you today.

Don’t Be Troubled

Scripture: John 14:1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me.

Observation: Most of my day it seems I live with my heart troubled. I start my morning in prayer giving God my anxieties and it seems in just a few minutes I’ve taken them back. I stand on Proverbs 3:5, 6 yet I can’t walk my talk and I lack the trust I need.

Application: I need to say trust in God each time I feel anxiety coming on. God has always been there for me yet I continue to lose heart and start to stray in my mind.

Prayer: Lord increase my faith that in all things I trust in you.

Whoever Serves Me

Scripture: John 12:26 Whoever serves me must follow me: and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

Observation: My role in this life and in eternity is to be a servant. I serve my Lord God here and forever. That is a lesson I need to learn each day that my life is not self-serving but God serving. To do that I must follow Jesus’ teachings that’s how I follow him. When I’m serving others that is where Jesus is and that’s where I want to be.

Application: Each day I need to find a way to serve someone in Jesus’ name and do what he commands me to do.

Prayer: My Lord guide me this day and show me who to serve and what to do.

Jesus Wept

Scripture: John 11:35 Jesus wept

Observation: This scripture shows how much Jesus cares for us. In my life I wonder how many times I hurt and disappointed God. My tears however were usually for myself whether pain or discouragement. I disregarded Jesus most of my life and hurt others yet instead of revenge, Jesus gave me mercy and grace and brought me in. Now when I weep, I can weep for others with a heart closer to my Lord’s.

Application: To have more compassion for others to be able to see their pain and to be able to do something to help.

Prayer: My Lord give me a heart like yours that I will take the focus off me and look to the needs of others.

Life to the Full

Scripture: John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.

Observation: The enemy is definitely out to destroy our life and steal our joy. He did it with my help most of my life. When Jesus entered my life it changed. He filled my heart with love and gave me a new perspective on life. He gave me a reason to live and was able to use me, giving my life purpose, something I never had before.

Application: Now that God has given me life to the full I need to be sharing that with others and not just keeping it to myself.

Prayer: My Lord thank you for not giving up on me and when I finally opened my eyes to your love, you filled my life with joy.

Who Does God Listens to

Scripture: John 9:31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.

Observation: God may hear everyone but He chooses to listen to the ones who want to do his will. I’m still a sinner and I prove that each day. When I’m in that sinful state God doesn’t listen because I’m not listening to Him. I truly want to do God’s will and when I do cry out, He hears and guides me.

Application: When I feel God isn’t listening, I need to ask myself am I doing God’s will or mine? I’m not ignorant I know God’s will, He makes it clear I have no excuses.

Prayer: Lord hear my cry and guide me each day to be in your will. May I glorify you today.

Who is Without Sin?

Scripture: John 8:7 When they kept on questioning him he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Observation: I wonder how many stones I throw in the course of a week? The negative comment, harsh words, wrongful action to someone. How many sins do I commit each day? Only because of Jesus sacrifice are my sins are forgiven I should at least be able to forgive and love others.

Application: I shouldn’t talk about someone else unless it’s supportive and encouraging. I should never throw a stone since I’m one of the worst sinners and have found mercy through Jesus.

Prayer: My Lord Strengthen me to help and encourage and to think before I act.
