A Dead Man Alive

Scripture: Acts 25:19 Instead they had some points of dispute with him about their own religion and about a dead man named Jesus who Paul claimed was alive.

Observation: I wonder after people talk to me how I represent my Lord. Do people even notice the difference in me from others, do I act or say anything that makes them wonder about God. Paul planted the seed about Jesus wherever he went and reaped a harvest in his life. What will I reap?

Application: I need to make people aware of my God whenever I have an opportunity, I need to be planting seeds in this world. I don’t need to explain the entire gospel but make people want what I have in Christ.

Prayer: My Lord make me a farmer for you. May I sow your Word into everyone I meet.

Afraid of the Word

Scripture: Acts 24:25 As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave, when I find it convenient, I will send for you.”

Observation: When we share God’s word and people reject it there are consequences of eternal proportions. People may listen to our testimony and feel good that we are doing better, but until it affects them, they are not going to change. It’s important to tell them where we would have been or what direction we were heading until God got control of our life.

Application: To thank God each day for saving me from Hell, where I was heading. Then to tell others where I would be now if it wasn’t for God’s grace.

Prayer: Dear Lord thank you for pulling my spirit from the direction I was heading and bringing me close to you.

The Lord Stands Near

Scripture: Acts 23:11 The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”

Observation: The Lord stood near and touched my heart the day I was saved. I’m constantly going through situations alone, but I don’t have to, the Lord is standing next to me. My mind is constantly going and I don’t listen. I wonder what my Lord might be saying to me? He is probably saying the same thing as he said to Paul, take courage. I’m such a coward by the way I live my life I should be testifying about Jesus to the people He surrounds me with each day.

Application: I need to live my life with Jesus standing nearby. Knowing He can see my actions and hear my words. I know I would live my life differently.

Prayer: My Lord stand near me always and speak the words you desire me to hear. I will obey.

God Will Send

Scripture: Acts 22:21 Then the Lord said to me, “Go I will send you far away to the Gentiles.”

Observation: I wonder why I don’t hear God? Is it because I just don’t listen or I talk too much. I know God has a purpose for me, but is He waiting to tell me or is he trying to talk to me now. I wonder how Paul heard the word of God? Was it as if a person talking to another or was it very quiet and hard to make out?

Application: Knowing God wants to speak to me I need to make more time to meditate and listen to God. My mind seems to be constantly going non-stop, preventing me to hear him.

Prayer: My Lord quiet this servant so that I may hear you. Speak to me and direct this servant’s path towards you.

Being Bound for Christ

Scripture: Acts 21:13 Then Paul answered, ”Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Observation: I wonder how ready I am at times. Paul was ready to die for the name of Jesus and sometimes I’m not even ready to face embarrassment. I would like to have Paul’s conviction and faith. My focus is too much on this world and not enough on the mission God has given me.

Application: I need to get myself ready to die for the name of my Lord, Jesus. To face ridicule, embarrassment and anything else so that I proclaim his name. I need to lay down the luxuries of this life to build up my treasures in heaven.

Prayer: My God give me Paul’s conviction and faith and use me this day to please and honor you.

Shepherds of the Church

Scripture: Acts 20:28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherd of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

Observation: Most of the time I’m not a good member of my church. I criticize or find an excuse not to serve when I should. I should be protecting and supporting my church which was bought by the blood of Jesus. I should help to make it better and to bring others to it to hear the Word of God.

Application: To make an effort to tell others about the church and to invite them. To stop my gossiping of the church to others in the church to truly be a member, part of the body, of Christ.

Prayer: Dear God draw me closer to you by drawing me closer to my church family. Make me an active part of the body.

Telling of the Holy Spirit

Scripture: Acts 19:2 And asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Observation: Many people who might call themselves Christians may never have received the Holy Spirit. As the scripture says they most likely don’t know there is a Holy Spirit. We as Christians who have received the Holy Spirit, like Paul, need to let others know about receiving the Holy Spirit.

Application: Need to tell others what the Holy Spirit does in my life. How He guides me each day, helps me choose the right words to say, comforts me and guides me in my prayers. That I’m the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Dear Lord fill me with the Holy Spirit and Holy Spirit guide me today.
