Power Not Talk

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 4: [20] For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.

Observation: As God’s children He gives us power through the Holy Spirit. That is the way we should live our life under the power of Jesus. We need to be working, bearing fruit for Christ, not just sitting around talking about it. I spent some time yesterday talking with Pastor Andre about outreach ministry. Now with his help hopefully the talking is over and the power of the Holy Spirit will take charge.

Application: The series at church is about setting goals to make our visions real. Doing something about what we know we should be doing. We are supposed to say it, see it and seize it. I need to follow up and plan my ministry to present to the church.

Prayer: My Lord empower me to fulfill the purpose you have created me for.

I’m God’s Temple

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3: 16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

Observation: If I thought I was God’s temple I would take much better care of it. I would eat better, exercise, read more so that others could see me as God’s temple and not just another fat, lazy man. I need a remodeling, actually an extreme makeover.

Application: I need to change the way I live. I need to start getting up early and exercising. I need to start a better diet and stop over eating. I’ve just spent the last three days home sick because I don’t take care of myself. Three days wasted. This is not my body, but God’s temple, if I start looking at me and my life that way, maybe I’ll treat it better.

Prayer: Dear Lord I offer my body as a living sacrifice may it glorify you.

No Eye Has Seen

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2: [9] However, as it is written:
“No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him” —

Observation: The main point is do I love God? Loving someone “Agape” is putting them before you. Do I do that? I can say I’m not sure what God wants of me, but that’s not true. Every selfish act on my part shows God that I don’t put him first. I don’t deserve anything from God, however God does love me and He has blessed me continually throughout my life.

Application: I need to show God that I love Him by putting Him first, trusting and obeying Him and fulfilling the purpose He has given me. Every morning I should wake up loving my God and telling Him so. Live a life putting God first in my thoughts, speech and actions.

Prayer: My Lord I love you and want to draw closer to you. Open my eyes and show me how I can prove it.

Boast in the Lord

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1: [31] Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Observation: Sometimes I get arrogant with some of the gifts God has given me. I might compare what I can do, to what others have done and notice how much better I did it. Then I realize there is nothing I can do apart from Christ. Every ability I have and the only reason I’m here comes from God. If I’m able to do anything well it’s because my Lord allows it.

Application: Each day I need to give credit to God for any good that may come from me. When praised by others to point to God who deserves to be praised.

Prayer: My God may I live today in glory to you. May I brag to others about my heavenly Father and all that you have done for me.

Watch Out

Scripture: Romans 16:17 I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

Observation: A friend made a comment about my church about the workings and all the mistakes that are made to see if I would agree. I’ve been approached by those of other religions that actually teach another gospel other than Jesus. I’m not sure whether to confront them or keep to myself.

Application: I need God’s direction on how to approach someone he puts in my path. I need to tell others about Jesus but be careful to avoid obstacles that might be placed in my path.

Prayer: My Lord guide me in who I need to talk to and who I need to avoid.

God of Hope

Scripture: Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Observation: There it is again “trust in Me.” I wonder at times why I’m not at peace and there are times of little hope. That is when I’m focused on my problems and not God. God has been faithful to me my whole life, so why is it so difficult to trust him? I won’t have that peace and hope until I’m committed to my Lord.

Application: Stop focusing on the things I want, a house, a stable job and even better health. Start trusting in God and have my focus on him and that he has everything under control.

Prayer: My Lord increase my faith that I will trust in you with all of my heart and lean not on my own understanding but in all my ways acknowledge you and you will make my path straight.

Judging One Another

Scripture: Romans 14:13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another, instead make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.

Observation: How easy is it to pass judgment on others? Sometimes my first look at someone I try to size them up. Even my brothers and sisters in the church, by the way they dress or act. If someone is doing better than me, I try to put an obstacle in their path or belittle them.

Application: I need to look at everyone as a special child of God. He loves us all equally and that is what he calls us to do. We are created exactly the way he wants us and we should appreciate that fact in everyone. God alone has the right to judge. I need to only worry about me.

Prayer: My Lord guide me this day that I focus on how to make me a better man for you.
